Title: All hose not created equal
Post by stewmills on 07/18/16 at 19:55:16

I was working on the bike tonight and had to pull the tank. In doing so, I for some reason looked at the vacuum hose and noticed it was splitting at the seam on both ends. This hose is only about 6 months old. It is hose I got from a small engine shop and they didn't have the exact hose, rather this hose that we both felt would do the trick. Anyhow, I had noticed the bike seemed to be running about 95% and as you know, you can just tell something isn't right.

Replaced it with another piece of the same hose (until I can get better hose) and it seems to be running smoother.

So...if you're old school like me and still have the stock petcock, pay attention to the vacuum hose and don't overlook checking it for cracks, be it the original or a relatively new replacement. You just never know...and it is easier to start with the quick and easy things first before tearing into the big things.

Yep, it is hard to get good "motorcycle" tubing at auto and lawn mower shops.  The OEM hose is always much better than the stuff that you can buy at the local shops.

The tubing you buy at dedicated motorcycle shops is usually pretty good, including the online places.

Silicone hose is the best - but unfortunately nobody sells it locally and you have to buy in online.  By the time you pay shipping and wait for it to arrive.....it doesn't always seem worth it.

(I will throw a spare Raptor petcock into my toolkit for this weekend....in case you end up needing it!) ;)

I really like the Kubota Dealers for any kind of tubing.

Whether it be Fuel, Vacuum, or Brake Line tubing Kubota Dealers have the correct sizes, made in Japan, and the prices are low to good.

YOU WILL NOT CONVERT ME!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I do keep a spare piece of tube as well as a cap, zip ties, and a golf tee in my breakdown kit just in case I have an issue and need to temporarily limp it home.
