just gave money to banks...
The SAME MONEY would have paid off the mortgages and Saved the citizens from destruction...

Actually, less money than what they handed to banks..

I actually never considered that. Had they given the money to the population, the money for the mortgages would've ended up with the banks anyway, only people would've been able to keep their houses.

Edit: a good term I learned earlier in the year: The "velocity of money".
