Title: Have I made a newbie oil change mistake. Post by sauvage on 07/03/16 at 03:04:59 Recently did an oil and filter change at 1000kms, and I have only just seen the rock the bike tip to get the cam bath oil out. I know that under normal circumstances it is not a big deal, but I was wondering if it is a big deal for the initial oil change, seeing that is going to contain the most crud. |

Title: Re: Have I made a newbie oil change mistake. Post by Tocsik on 07/03/16 at 05:44:31 Sounds like he didn't rock the bike back and forth get as much oil out of the head as possible. Sauvage, don't sweat it. Your bike will be fine! |

Title: Re: Have I made a newbie oil change mistake. Post by Serowbot on 07/03/16 at 07:26:06 I'm not sure it makes any difference anyway... You'll never get all the old oil out,.. but if you did,... you'll be having a moment of no oil in the head at initial start-up... (even dirty oil is better than none).. So is it better to leave a little dirty oil in?... Who knows... I used to change my oil every 1500 miles... but now, I think that may be overkill. I'm changing every 3,000 now. On my Sportster,... I go 5,000 miles as recommended in the manual. I think we worry too much... :-? |

Title: Re: Have I made a newbie oil change mistake. Post by sauvage on 07/03/16 at 17:20:11 OK thanks, I was just a bit extra nervous because the first oil change will have the most crap in it. I feel better now. |
Title: Re: Have I made a newbie oil change mistake. Post by WD on 07/03/16 at 20:29:48 I change the filter every couple years. Oil changes itself, I just top it off as needed. :( |
