Title: Ordering custom brake line
Post by Graven754 on 06/28/16 at 14:54:24

What measurements are the fittings? I'm judging it based on the socket i used to remove the bike. Which makes the fitting 12mm. Anybody measure these before?

I'd call the company you want to make your line and ask them what information they need. They might be able to work from the socket size.
Remember to include enough slack to allow for the forks coming unloaded and the legs fully extend. If you can hoist the front wheel off the ground and then measure a piece of tubing that is routed in place and marked, that might be helpful.

If your ordering braided hoses, also try to let them know the orientation of any banjos. If they need to be at 90 deg to each other and they've made them both in line (ie: both banjos laying flat when the hose is layed out) the braided line is really hard to twist 90 deg to make it fit. I've sent hoses back before because they've got it wrong.

I get my brake lines from Venhill USA.  They custom make them for you, and you can choose what kinds of ends you want, and the fittings bolt on so there is no issue with alignment.  They braided hose is really good stuff......these aren't the cheapest hoses you can find......but they likely the best hose you can buy.  The covering is very durable and doesn't fade or peel.  I don't know the size of the bolts you need.......I will try and remember to measure them.....I believe they are 10mm but I can't remember the thread pitch.

Graven,

I have found that the local Kubota Dealer is the least expensive place to get brake lines made up.

Take your old line, complete with fittings, and they will make a new one while you wait.

Kenny
