Title: throttle routing for ape hangers?
Post by Graven754 on 06/27/16 at 16:29:04

So I discovered that I can use my oem throttle cable with my 12 inch apes if I swing it out to the side instead of wiring it through the forks and behind the headlight. I would like to get the proper length cable later but i'm tight on funds now and want to get her running. Anybody done this before? Any major reasons why I shouldn't do this?

Make sure it CAN'T catch or hang-up on ANYTHING. If anything can go wrong, well,,,, there is no good time for a stuck throttle, anytime is BAD.

You should start the bike and turn the handle bars slowly full right to left if you don't hear a change in engine speed your ok.If you do it could be dangerous!

I ran the stock cable, outside the tank, with 13.5" rise bars for several years. The cable WILL rub the paint from the stock tank.

And if you ride into close quarters and hang the cable on something it'll turn the front tire and dump you.

Has anyone found a good supplier of extended throttle cable? I have put on some buckhorns and could use an extra 12".

steady-

I have a universal cable that is long enough, but the thread going into the switch housing (M12 x 1.0 ?) is making it difficult to make an adapter for it.
