Title: Turn signals on Ryca project inactive
Post by Winesquid on 06/26/16 at 15:05:37

Hi fellow Savage fans,

My Ryca CS-1 project continues...slowly (work seems to get in the way of life). I've run into an issue with my turn signals. I wanted to test every thing before mounting the tank and seat and zip tying the wiring harness in place. The only thing not working I are the turn signals on the integrated rear light supplied by Ryca. Brake light, license light and running light works, as does headlight low and high beam.

The funny thing is that the indicator lights on the panel don't blink either.

I can't find my tester (grrrr) so will likely have to buy a new one. Does anyone have thoughts about how to trouble shoot that I can try in the mean time? One thing is that it appears a previous owner may have wired in new turn signals at some point ( I think the bike was dropped and they were broken off). I can tell because instead of the factory connector for the signals at the rear, there are bullet connectors. All the wire colors appear to be there, so I'm kinda puzzled.

Thanks!

Have you checked the relay or the fuse? What do the front directionals do?

Have not checked the relay or the fuse - thanks.

Front turn signals are not installed.

Any trick to checking the relay? Require a meter?

Your tail light is now LED bulbs....and they will not operate the stock flasher unit.

You need to get a solid state flasher, and install it in place of the stock one.  It is located on the right front side of the top frame tube, opposite side of the coil.  It has just 2 wires.  You can use any 2 wire solid state flasher you get at a Auto Parts store.

Thanks, Dave. Funny that Ryca doesn't mention that in their print or video instructions...

Dave, I'm not sure that this is correct info. The brake light/turn signal unit supplied with the RYCA kit works with the OEM flasher. If my memory is correct, there is a minor wiring difference for the fronts (no driving light function of the indicators) but the rear work just as the instructions suggest.

This maybe your problem, with incandescent bulbs and the stock flasher, a single bulb will blink faster, but LED's won't blink at all.
Another issue with LED's maybe polarity.  Try swapping leads.

I'd find your relay and take a short piece of wire beared on the ends and jumper the socket the relay plugs into ,turn the key on and and test your switch if you have turn signals (they wont be flashing) you'll know the flasher unit is bad ,if not you'll need to check your wiring . If you work with your key on for long periods of time you should unplug  the ign. (cdi) as you can burn it out (BIG MONEY).

Team Savage,

Thanks for everyone's help. Problem solved!

Kinda embarrassing, but I forgot to install the turn signal relay.  :P

I had it marked as a component of the valve solenoid, so it was still stuck in a baggie. Only once I looked at an exploded view on on parts website did I realize my mistake.

Good news is you pointed me in the directlon of the relay - Thank you!!
