Title: Decarbing.....
Post by raydawg on 06/23/16 at 05:21:19

On my 2 stroke outboards, I decarb every second season and use a product in the fuel as well.
I have never had to rebuild an outboard.
What about our little primitive motor, think it would work?
I know I ride year round, and my bike likes that, it seems sluggish after a lay up, she wants to ride !

2 strokes get dirty faster. I say just ride it and do the normal maintenance. Decarbonizing can't hurt though.

If you ride at low speed all the time, and buy economy grades of fuel....the engine can get some carbon build up.  Buying fuels like BP, Shell, Sunoco you will get better detergent packages, and the engine will stay a bit cleaner.  There was an article in one of the motorcycle magazines about fuel a while back, and they said that the "economy" fuel has the minimum amount of cleaner required - and the name brand fuels can have 5 times that much cleaners in their brand of fuel.

However.....the Savage really doesn't build up a lot of carbon.

Like your outboard motors.....my 2 stroke trials bike could really build up a lot of carbon and unburned oil in the exhaust if I rode around at low speeds all the time......and the forums suggested a high speed run down the road every now and then to get the exhaust system good and hot to burn out the crap.  Old exhaust systems on these bikes were much louder than new ones - as the fiberglass inside got all oil soaked and gummy.

First car ran Eighty MPH when I got it. My gramma had driven it for years.. I started running it around the loop, flat out, on Saturday morning. Hadda be at work around five, five thirty,,
We had to unload the truck. When I sold it it would peg the speedo. Never did anything but plugs/wires/cap/rotor. .no carburetor adjustments or anything else that would make it run better.
