Title: 2014 S40 -- inner tubes? really?
Post by youngde811 on 06/10/16 at 20:35:47

Hi. I should know the answer to this question; apologies that I don't. Do my 2014 S40 stock tires have inner tubes or are they tubeless. I read on the front tire "tube type" so I'm guessing they have tubes (or at least the front does).

If so, why? Is it just part of the bike's character? I love my S40 BTW; just curious.

Thanks,

David

You can run tubeless tires, but they are gonna need tubes.
The spoke nipples are not sealed. You know what leaking nipples do.

I have SPOKEn..

Very few bikes have spokes and no tubes. More popular than it was, but still not the norm.
Depending on the style of rim, some tube type wire wheels can be converted to tubeless. IIRC, the MT rims can be done, while the WM rims are unsafe.
I'm having my rear wheel built up as an 18" aluminum rim with the tubeless tire thing done by Woody's Wheel Works in Colorado.
Not a cheap date. The whole dog and pony show (stainless, polished spokes, etc) will be over $600.
Harley does the tubeless thing with some kind of rim band. The Euro companies use rims with the spoke nipples way offset.

With no tube your spokes will leak all of the air out.
