Hi,

I have very stupid and beginners question, hope you will forgive me. I recently bought my very first own bike, used Savage Ryca CS1 build, and within 5 minutes after purchase I broke the metal "connector" between the very front pedal and engine - please see images attached. Problem is, I don't even know what it is, and don't even know how it happened? I checked both manual and parts list and couldn't find it. Bike runs well, without problems, so it seems.

Therefore my questions is: What is that? How can I replace it?

I would contact RYCA and send them pictures of the entire decomp rod and links. They should have parts for it. RYCA.com

Ryca also makes a thumb lever that does the same thing and you can get rid of the pedal and all that linkage crap. I like the thumb lever , small and out of the way !

The thumb lever calls for a "clutch mod" (???) . :-?

If your bike is running properly, I doubt if you bent that exuast valve...

Most likely you pushed on the pedal too hard with your foot.

It can't hold the exhaust valve open far enough to anything to get broken (the stock decompression solenoid does the same thing).

99 out of 100 starts you most likely need the lever....but every not and then the piston is on the upstroke toward compression when the starter kicks in, and it can sometimes refuse to let the starter turn the engine over against the compression.

The problem with the hand lever - is if you stall the bike, you can[t hold the clutch lever in at the same time you reach down to use the decompression lever. You need to shift into neutral and then use the hand lever if the engine won't go over the compression stroke.

Always keep the idle speed at or above 1,000RPM.
Letting it idle while on the sidestand robs the cam of oil.

If the valve is held open and contact is made with the piston, the valve will suffer. (Usually bending) Sometimes/ often the piston is damaged also. Either way, NOT a good situation.

The compression release lever on the Suzuki will not push the valve open much.....it just lifts it off the seat a small amount. It has to.....as the stock compression release system does the same thing - it lifts the valve regardless of the position of the crank.

Don't sweat it......you didn't hurt anything.

If it were mine I'd fix it just because I want all systems go! Almost as critical as a tool kit. The bike runs but doesn't need it to run.
