Title: Is your rear end squishy?
Post by SugarBoogers on 06/10/16 at 13:14:51

This bike ain't like any other bike I've ridden, I've only ridden a few, but it really feels weird. It's not as noticeable now as it was 2 weeks ago, but it just doesn't seem to track straight, like it needs swing arm bushings or the front tire wanders left then right, or something. It seems like I have to be driving it at all times and can't just let it find its own way or something.

What's the status on your tires?  Old/hard/bad tires can make things squirmy.

I'm really sensitive to tire pressure. I don't pay much attention to Suzuki's recommended pressure. I run about 40 psi in the rear and slightly less than that in the front. That's what feels safe to me. Anything less and the bike gets a bit squirmy.

The 130/90-15 is just a slight bit taller, and a few mm wider (really!), than the stock IRC 140/80-15 tire.  The 140/90-15 is quite a bit bigger, and makes some handling and gearing changes to the bike.  The Shinko tires are a good bargain if you only ride a couple thousand miles a year....and your tire gets olds before you wear it out (5 years is about as long as it is recommended to use a tire).

I have a Dunlop 140/90-15 on the back. It was the size (bald) the PO had on it, so when I re-upped the tire that's the size I used. It does seem like it's geared high, and just feels weird to ride. Now I wish the Suzuki dealer had sold me a stock tire. IIRC they were out of them so I got the Dunlop. IIRC it's the D404 model. I'm not sure I can recommend it for a first time tire buy.

After wearing through a few tires I tried the
Dunlop 140/90-15,  never bought any other kind.. I liked that tire. And I was a hooligan and pegs were ground down.

My rear end is squishy, but my wife likes it.

My Savage's end got squishy when I had loose spokes.
