Title: The Right Dr. Will Keep You Ridin'
Post by KennyG on 05/31/16 at 21:05:59

Leading up to today has been scary for me ,vascular surgery.

The vascular surgeon that worked on my right leg today spent  2 1/2 hours scraping plaque and calcium
out of the femoral artery in my right leg and placed 6 stents in the artery. He did this to avoid doing the bypass that he thought would be necessary.

The stents he used are treated with a medication to prevent the calcium from building up in the artery again.

The surgeon is a guy that I ride motorcycle with and I now see that it pays to have a motorcycle rider for a vascular surgeon.

He did this so I can continue to ride a two wheeler for a long time, and years down the road the bypass can be done if necessary.

He did tell me not to ride until this Saturday, if Carlos knew how much my leg is hurting he wouldn't have to make that suggestion.

I guess he doesn’t know darned old I am....LOL

His name is Carlos Cruz M.D.

Miss Ellen made me some old time Green Hospital Jello.

Ride Safe!

Awesome stuff!  ;D

Hope you heal quickly. Good luck, Kenny! Sometimes riding is the best rehab.

Kris,

I was looking at Stew Mills pegs mounted on the engine bar and for the first time in my life I am considering forward pegs.

My leg does smart when I bend it.

I notice some one has posted that all they need is a sunny day and a full tank of gas.

I am going to give it a try.

And stick with your S40/Savage, don't buy a sport road bike.

J C,

I am almost certain that I am driving the last 2 bikes that I will ever own.

There is always the possibility that I could down size to something smaller and lighter to keep ridin' as long as possible.

At this point in time the S40 is a perfect fit for the ridin' that I do.

Do my legs ever hurt this morning, it feels like 10 bikes ran over me.

Getting old sux, but, the option isn't so attractive. Having been athletic and a thrill seeking adrenaline junkie I've done more than my fair share of skidding, falling and bouncing. Thanks to the science of chiropractic arts, and the skillful hands of surgeons,  am still relatively functional. I feel for you, Kenny.
I do.

Justin,

I hope to get few more years of ridin' in before I start wasting my time in front of the television.

A good Dr. can keep us alive until the insurance money runs out.

I know not yet what they do then.

Verslagen,

They did the left leg last year which that only took a few minutes with  almost no pain involved.

I am trying to look beyond the pain to get a few more good years of ridin'.

My leg is really painful this morning.

I wish you a speedy recovery Kenny. You certainly have the right frame of mind. Thump on my friend.

And furthermore, I want you to know you are an inspiration to me. You are 20 years my senior and I hope I am still riding when I reach your age. My hat is off to you my friend.

Spring,

I wish I was your age so that I could get at least another twenty years of ridin' before my ticket is punched.

I have been very fortunate in my old age to be able to do everything I could do a half a century ago. Although most things take a little longer than they did.

Thank you for the well wishes.

Ken... what position is your leg the most comfortable in?

Reason I'm asking is because I bought a little 250 ninja for the wife that had a lowering kit.
She is 5'1"....
The position leg position on the ninja's (250 and 300) is the foot is directly below the seated body... I actually find it more comfortable than the savage.
On the savage I have a lot of spinal pressure from sitting leaning back and my legs below and a little forward of me... so I bought the 4" control set here.
It still does not help as I am leaning back even more and putting more pressure on my spine and the top backside of my thighs..... and have to put pressure on my feet to give my tushy a rest.
On the ninja, I am sitting directly above my feet with my knees bent forward, my feet below my butt and I can lean a little toward the tank with minimal pressure on my wrists. (I have a 1" raised bar to bring them higher)
Even with the stock seat (which is quite solid) I can ride for at least 2 hours before I have to stop to relieve the pressure on my spine and legs.
I have learned if I put pressure against the tank with my knees and use my stomach muscles, I can actually relieve a little of the forearm and wrist issues. (it is a practiced art)
I guess what i'm getting at is that you don't have to be in a "reclined" position to get comfortable while riding.
I find just the opposite, and that sitting upright helps me to ease the stress on my body better. Just need to find the "perfect" seat :)
This is me on the dragon three years ago.... I have a 2" lowering kit on it, my inseam is 30" and I can flat foot with knees bent.

Od Rider,

Once my legs are healed from the surgery I will be fine on the S40. My legs hurt so much now I don't think I could ride if I wanted too. Since it rains everyday in Texas I am not ridin' at this time anyway.

After riding the same Norton for 30 years I like the pegs right underneath me. The Sportsters that I rode over the years always had the mid controls too. I guess it is all a matter of preference, but I am sure that I would be incapable of ridin' a bike with ape hangars and 6" forward controls. I don't know how I would lean into a corner.

If the S40 had mid controls next year I would be the first guy in line to buy a new  one.

After 5000+ miles on the S40 I am used to the forward peg location and I do pretty well on the corners.

Kenny
