Title: New Pipe!
Post by whoisrawb on 05/31/16 at 10:02:59

Hey all!  I just wanted to say thanks for approving me to be a part of this board! I just bought my first savage a week ago and found a ton of useful info on this board already. When I bought her she had no pipe and was raging loud ::) my neighbors sure didn't appreciate it. I got on craigslist and found this harley Davidson pipe like new for only $80 took some custom fitting and welding but was able to get it on there and sounds like a champ! I will be also changing out the pet thingy to a raptor pet thingy after reading about how many of you folks have done that because she was only running on prime. I took it apart and found that it was not even working anymore! Anyways here is a pic of the new pipe! Have a great day!

EDIT also threw on that headlight had to use the original bulb and housing but made it work!

What year model and how many miles on it?
Looks good,, if you got the header And muffler for eighty bucks, you did really well. Do you know what model Harley that thing came on? It looks big enough to be effective on Ford F250..
How is the sound?
Headlight has nice lines.. good match. Sounds like quite a bit of tinkering and fitting went into marrying the parts up.
Did you paint it or just luck into such a good match?

its a 2000 ls650 with 30k on it. The header was on the bike already and the previous owner only put a tip on it  :-? lol and it fell off on the ride home and the car behind me and flattened it like a pancake !  ;D as for the harley it came off I dont know the model the harley wasbut it was huge! lol The sound is nice and healthy and the backfiring was pretty much gone after I took the header off attached the pipe and put it back on there. The light came that color and got lucky with the match, as for marrying the parts it was very custom! I have a feeling everything I do to this bike is going to be that way!

At 30,000 you would be well advised to check the cam chain and adjuster.

I will be doing that this weekend, anything specific I should be looking for? as the appropriate tension should be on the chain?

If it's a genuine Harley muffler, it will have a part number embossed on it somewhere along with a disclaimer about noise levels and some language about not installing it on any other motorcycle.  ;D Can you post that part number (and any other info you find on it) and maybe upload a video or sound clip of it running? I'm curious how different it will sound to all of the other HD mufflers we've all tried.

http://www.weeksmotorcycle.com/hd-model-codes.html

That appears to have come from a Harley Tour Glide with a 96 or 103 CID engine. Should be plenty of muffler to handle A Savage 650!

Also I threw in the Raptor petcock do i need to link a fuel filter between the raptor and carb? or does the filter in the petcock suffice?

Nice.  I like it.  The length is great, too.  Keeps the soot off the rear brake linkage.

Yo, Boofer here. Great snag on the bike. I was lurking around here the other day and saw a quote where I gave some bad info on the plastic tube that comes with the Raptor. Since I knew better it must have been one of my attempts at being cute and not using emoticons. I don't like emoticons.  >:( >:( :) :-?

Keep us updated and check the chain tensioner. Mine was out nearly 20mm iirc at 15,000 miles. I added to the adjuster length, but a Versy fix is much better. Turned 27,000 today.
