I did it. I regretted it. It didn't seal off inside the air box. It's a hassle to clean, allows big stuff past it. You need to keep a paper filter for when the fancy one is drying.
The home brew filter, design available on this site, hadn't been worked out when I did it. The performance change was negligible if any. But I didn't dyno, so, I don't know really.

I had that filter in my S40 for 3,000 miles before my "upgrade project".  Mine came with a small metal piece and screw that held the filter in place in the stock air box sealed perfectly.  With recommended cleaning, it should last you 5-10 years.   It does allow a better air flow than paper filters, but I installed at same time I rejetted the carb, so performance gain for filter alone = ?..     ( I use this type of filter on my wife's DTS and my truck with out issue.)    :)

yes, have it installed right now ... as old indian pointed out, there's a metal bracket that screws the filter flush for a tight fit.

You should look in the tech section ,check oldfeller's home made air filter,I've been running mine two years, oldfeller ran his five without even cleaning it .Cost $8.00 theirs$58.00. And oldfellers does a better job.
