back in the 70's and 80's -
did Honda and Suzuki share the same parts manufacturers?

Interesting question. This I know for sure. I have an old Honda ft500. There js a certain gear that waxes weak in the gear reduction starting sequence. Honda, of course, no longer carry's it. Doing some research, I found out that this gear was made by, get this, none other than Fords Motorcraft division.
Sooo I suppose anything is possible[ch55357][ch56844]

I've been on the hunt for old school motorcycle build parts and have run into Honda and Suzuki parts that are identical except for OEM markings ... bearings, hubs, wheels, kickstands, rotors, gas tanks, etc. It was the GS and VF gas tanks that sealed it for me, they're identical to the Honda tanks of the same period. They had to be stamped at the same factory, but with different OEM numbers.

I've  noticed a few things on different bikes that surprised me. . . . I took a tank from a 72 Honda 450 & put it directly on the FT500. It slipped right on and with very mods. would have worked nicely.

The from tank mounts on a Savage seem very strange. The Savage tank is very strange; for that matter. IMHO of course!
