Title: SHeepskin seat cover suggestions
Post by stewmills on 05/17/16 at 08:26:11

Hey...After riding quite a bit (~550 miles) this weekend I had a thought that may make my already modified seat even more comfy on those long haul rides. Sheepskin cover.

Has anyone had experience with a relatively inexpensive brand that covers just the front seat area well (mainly the butt bone area) and is worth the money?  I want a black one that blends in with my mostly black and chrome bike.

Thanks!

I have one of these on each of my bikes and I think they are well worth the money.

Best regards,

Mine's just a piece of sheepskin. Throw it on the seat and sit on it. No fitting or straps. Don't need them. After a while of sitting on it, it kind of conforms to the seat shape. $10 as an offcut/reject from the locall sheepskin goods manufacturing place. It's great.

pg, did you get the size small?

Mine is fake sheepskin,... the elasticity of the fabric makes it conform nicely to the seat, and it has lasted over 5 years so far.
My buddies wife sewed a drawstring around the perimeter.

Thanks pg!

Serow, looks nice and good idea, but I still have the stock 2008 one piece seat so I will have to use the strap-on ( :o) cover/cushion since I just want to cover the driver seat for longer rides and not the passenger area.

I like gizzo's idea, just get a bit o sheepskin and secure it by sitting on it
That way you can carry it in when you're at work, and if it rains / dews you won't be sitting on a sloppy mess (wet sheepskin don't dry quick in my experience) on the way home

Ok...I finally ordered and installed my new sheepskin seat cover (size small) from alaska leather per pg's suggestion.

Shipped and received in 2 days. Quality looks and feels very well.  Installs with a single strap under the seat which has snaps on both sides so you can remove it to wash the bike (or if it's raining) without having to remove the seat and pull the strap completely out.

I finally rode to work with it today for the first time and for a short 15 minute ride I think it's great.  Time will tell as I ride more as well as some longer rides, but I would certainly say for $50 its well worth it.

What does the sheepskin do, let more air in at your butt?

It doesn't get overly hot or cold and provides a little bit of cushion.  I have 2 covers from the Alaskan place and I'm sure I will always use them.   8-)

And you don't 'stick' to the seat when you're trying to move around or readjust a little, you sorta glide around on the luscious cushion of sheepskin.

Kenny, wool draws moisture & dissipates it. I would presume that is where the majority of the comfort would come from.

Sorry for the delayed reply guys...I was on a long weekend vacation with my seat cover  ;D

I rode a little this weekend and to the point of dissipating heat, it is nowhere near as hot as the seat after it's been baking in the sun for hours. Sure, the seat cover is 'warm' because it is black and absorbs some heat, but you saddle right up and it doesn't burn your business.  :-?

I rode for about an hour+ Friday afternoon in the 95+ degree heat and my bottom never seemed to get 'hot'.

And while most of us have to mail order these hunks of sheepskin........you guys most likely can find some by just crossing over the neighbor's fence! ;)

(Is that subject to the same penalty has cattle rustling and horse theiving?)

Two possible "theme songs" for this progressively goofy thread:

"Embraceable Ewe"...."It Had To Be Ewe" (with apologies to the late, great Chairman of the Board.)

Sorry y'all...couldn't resist...  ;D
