Title: 200 Miles in the Arizona heat
Post by Elmer on 05/15/16 at 18:18:52

Did my first long ride today.  200 miles here in Arizona initially with 13 others.  The bike cruises well at 70 on the highways.  8-)

We went up to Strawberry and back from Mesa.  Left early in the morning so it was cool and of course Strawberry is always cool and nice up there.  It was just the ride back into mesa down 87 that wore me out the most.

I'd be willing to take some of that heat if you can deliver it to KY.  My wife and I cancelled our planned 4 hour ride and overnight stay to Cumberland Falls this weekend.  It was below 40 degrees on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the high was in the 50's and it was very windy.  Saturday morning at our planned departure....it was raining and very windy.  We were going with another couple, and the good news is the wives talked it over on Wednesday...and they cancelled our reservation.

This morning we had frost on our roof and in the grass!

Nellis AFB, Las Vegas. Seriously in the summer, and the car didn't have a working air conditioner.
We Thought we would roll the windows down. We were on cement,  crossing the runways. The air was so hot that we had to roll the windows up. Like a blast furnace. Good grief, I thought Odessa was hot.

The trick is to stay in the mountains. BUT BE CAREFUL !!!  A friend who lives in Strawberry has had to clean up the mess Harley riders make when they lose it.   (When I went through last September I passed one such involving one Harley and two sport bikes..)
260 is a great ride as is 180 . 8-)

It was a lot of fun.  Stopped at Jakes Corner Bar and again at Sportsmans Chalet to get a beer and a cheeseburger sent up the dumbwaiter.  I highly recommend the burgers

I've been seen sending beer and cheeseburgers down the useless eater.

Add some toxic sludge, it'll taste normal.
