Title: So we are riding a bike designed for women?
Post by old_rider on 05/05/16 at 18:23:02

I guess since the early 80's women have had a bike designed specifically for them to ride...
The Suzuki S40..... funny, I just thought it was a nicely designed all around motorcycle, since it hasn't really changed, just the name.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/automotive/sc-motorcycle-women-autocover-0505-20160503-story.html

No animosity toward our female compadre's, just that I found it funny they should state that the S40 was "designed" that way.

People only say that because it doesn't require a ton of testosterone to ride this bike. Apparently it's all about bragging rights with larger more powerful bikes!  :-?

So we are riding a bike designed for women?

Only if the woman is a beginner.  :)  Just kidding.

Actually I've purchased two really nice used bikes that were used by women.  My S40 and my Guzzi.  Both had very low miles and good dealership maintenance.  So I think it is great that women buy these bikes and then don't use them so we can buy em cheap.  Thanks girls.

Seriously, I was getting my hair cut earlier this week and a woman was in there talking about her new Harley.  She was maybe 40, small and good looking and has been riding for some time.  She thought it was funny that I rode such small bikes.  Doesn't bother me.

The S40 is a good starter bike for just about anyone, some people grow to love them. Although most on this forum appear to be forty to seventy year old males.

yup, at my age I like 'em light enough to pick up, yet hard to hang on to when they got their feet on the ground.

there's absolute zero truth in this authors assumption ...

check out the stature of most asian cultures (average height around 5' to 5'2") ...

where this bike was engineered and originally marketed ...

what a jack@ss ...

Hey, I bought my bike from a girl. Low mileage and great price. Works for me. ;D Plus, I'm not exactly what you call basketball player material. ;D

Both of the Savages I bought belonged to women, so did the Ninja 250, and the Kawasaki 250 Super Sherpa Dual Sport...and believe it or not so did the 740 pound ST1100.

Our Savage was not made for a woman - but is suitable for the fairer sex to ride.

Add my name to the list as well. I bought mine from a woman who would rather ride 2-up with her husband than ride her own bike. He originally bought it as a birthday gift to her. How nice! She put almost no miles on it during her entire length of ownership! Lucky me!

Yup, mine was owned by a woman too

The only specifically feminine thing about our bikes was the candy purple and cream colour used some years ago. I've been given to understand this colour was targeted at the female market.

White was the fastest color!

Title: Re: So we are riding a bike designed for women?
Post by Ruttly on 05/08/16 at 05:59:17

Dave if a cop sees a white sport car go by at 75 mph he doesn't look twice but if the same car in red going 75 mph he gets the ticket therefore red is the fastest color. White is ok in my book! This must be a touchy subject , not to many counter posts. I'm just trying to gets the boys & girls riled up. Truly thought there would be some serious Ruttly bashing going on !

We need to take Ruttly to the Dragon for some hands on experience of what the girly bike does to Hurleys and inept sportsbike riders.

isn't the "yellow" faster?

The dragon is on my bucket list and yes yellow can be fast

I've seen yellow cause bursts of acceleration, especially at intersections.

Oldfeller,  I am native of California where the twisties are where you learn to ride. Me on a SR500 have belittled many and had 2 beers down before the hurleys even got to Alice's Resturant ! Can't wait to get my GT695 to ride the dragon with you guys !

I just remembered....the NT700 I just bought was supposed to be for the fellows wife - but she prefers to ride on the back of his.  That means the last 5 bikes I bought were all "womens" bikes!

Dave,

I have often heard that if you give bikes a female name they are then known as D!ke Bikes.....LOL

My one is named Ally Oop. I haven't thought of a name for the other one.

Ok I'll come clean when I bought my Yellow 96 savage with 809 miles on it, I bought from a girl who bought from a girl . When I got it home first thing that got removed was the tool and the saddle bags ( cause they had roses on them) and put them in the garbage quickly! But nothing was going to stop me from building a Ryca Street Tracker and got on with gutting the entire bike.

Last time I checked the only thing that matters is when your done riding any motorized two wheeler is how big your smile is and how much fun you just had, right. So go ride a moped or scooter or girly bike and just remember one thing and tell yourself " I don't give a f_ _ _ what you think"
So if you find yourself in the women's underwear section at your local Walmart then you might need to question yourself , but not because you ride a purple Savage !

A lot of guys wear pantyhose in the winter (when riding) to stay warm.  ;)

My partner rides a Ducati monster, which she bought from a girl. It's yellow. Girls bike for sure, but only when a girl's riding it. When her better half rides it, it becomes a wailing peg scraping knee sliding performance machine. I guess it goes to the "undecided" bathroom :)
BTW, not many people over here know what a savage is. When I describe how mine started life, I describe it as a bike for 5' lesbians. Then they know exactly how it was.  ;)

My GN400, the first one, had a rose on each of the side covers
since the rest of the bike was flat black where it wasn't chrome, I left the roses on there

I took my S40 out on a ride today and parked it on what I thought was a nice flat piece of pavement.  Suddenly it rolled forward and off the side stand.  I managed to catch it before it hit the asphalt and lifted it back up.  Can't do that with a Harley Road King!

I once had a Yamaha XJR400 (Japanese import).
It did everything I wanted it to, and it looked good doing it.

A friend pointed out that it was "a girl's bike", btw he had a HD Dyna.
I was quick to point out that the XJR was:
-quicker
-faster
-infinitely better at stopping
-infinitely better handling
-lighter
-cheaper
-got more interest/attention (from other bikers)
-cheaper to tax
-cheaper to insure
AND had 1050 cc less than his Dyna.....
