I think it's foam. I ride in dirty conditions. Will it filter the dirt comparably well? I assume it needs more maintenance. That's fine.

Those generic photos don't indicate anything about what you actually will get delivered for the Savage. The foam filters shown probably fit dirt bikes - and when you type in the information for the Savage........you will get a paper filter and it will be priced accordingly.

Oh just use a big spring and a old sock ! You do own some socks ?

That is too expensive, you can make your own stock filter -- http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1183640744 -- about a buck, works better.
