Title: Replacement calliper
Post by mark61120 on 05/04/16 at 11:36:00

Hi, Is there an alternative to the front calliper for a 1988 savage. Mine is leaking and a new seal kit has not worked. The only scourge for a decent calliper seems to be the States!

There is nothing that is a bolt on.....other than the Suzuki provided caliper.

Where are you located?

The cup that pushes the brake pad is against the o ring. If you don't clean up the groove for the o ring and check out the cup, it may not seal. Those things are nothing more than a very odd shaped hydraulic ram.
You're sure it's leaking out around the cup?
The bleeder valve is holding, hose isn't leaking..
Have you dropped it and smacked the caliper?
That's cast aluminum, wouldn't expect it to crack, but, it's a possibility.

What all came with the seal kit?

Thanks for the reply guys. I am quite an experienced bike builder and there is a problem with this calliper (after rebuilding it with a full rubber kit, seal and boots). It was siezed and it took a bit of freeing. I couldn't see anything wrong with the piston or it's bore. It just will not seal against the high pressures involved.

Cheers,
Mark
ps: I am in the UK.

If you're willing to collect from Northants, I've got a good used caliper + pads, and also hose and a disc (all stock) that we could do a deal on.
Getting to the Post Office isn't so easy for me at the moment (recent surgery) but if you are willing to wait a couple of weeks, I can post ;)
