Title: Chain Tensioners ? Wheel Adjusters what do they do
Post by CodyT on 05/01/16 at 15:37:29

I just changed the rear wheel and tried to get these the way they were before. They seemed uneven before the change and look it now aswell. I worry because this is the only part of the change i didnt understand.

everything appears normal. I have noticed a bit of powerloss? idk how to explain it. Its feels boucey as i accelerate, i also noticed my air box had oil in it and the air filter was saturated. the oil didnt smell gassy but the filter sure did.

The tire is bigger than the stock size.

You replaced the air filter?
Drained the tube under the bike? How did you decide how tight to get the belt? Can you twist it 90*?
A good piece of string under the belt on the front pulley, gotta pull the guard, watch for vibration damping pads, and run the string across the face of the front pulley back to the rear pulley.
That will show you if the rear wheel is out of alignment.
Gotta roll the bike till the string is on the front of the pulley.

Maybe just a straight edge on the rear pulley, look down it, see where it's pointed.

Don't go by the marks on the adjusters. They don't have to match side to side. Suzuki wasn't real accurate. You have to measure from the same  point on both sides to get the tire to track straight. I measure from the swing arm pivot to the rear axle. Get as close to even as you can or the tire will sit diagonally in the swing arm.

That's a load of money for what I can accomplish with a few feet of string.

Sure you can. I can do it with string too, but I prefer this. It's quick, easy, results are repeatable and good for guys without the skills. Seen some pretty ordinary alignments done with string by guys who don't really know how. Using stretchy string, bending it around stands or exhaust, that kind of stuff. Can buy an inexpensive block and pointer kind of deal that accomplishes the same thing. Or you can make one if you have the skills to build accurately. They work well too. I doubt it would go over the Cabbage rear pulley though.

Yeah, I get ya,  kinda scary sad that someone could be unable to grasp the concept of
Straight as a string.
