Title: Trouble getting aftermarket taillight working... Post by Joshua8195 on 04/24/16 at 12:42:14 Having trouble getting my aftermarket taillight working properly. I have it wired up so that the running light and the LP light are on. But I can't figure out the brake light switches? No matter what wire I connect to what, the brake light won't switch on when I use the brake lever or pedal. I have the wiring diagram, the white wire with the black stripe is the brake light switch. The brake light I'm using is one from lowbrow customs and it has 2 wires. 1 for running lights. 1 for brake lights. How do I wire it? Thanks!! |
Title: Re: Trouble getting aftermarket taillight working. Post by verslagen1 on 04/24/16 at 12:57:26 do you have a ground wire connected to the lights frame? and a picture would help. |
Title: Re: Trouble getting aftermarket taillight working. Post by Joshua8195 on 04/24/16 at 13:23:35 Yes! It was the ground! On the instructions the ground said it was optional but I tried it and it didn't work and then I moved to another part of the project. Tried the ground again and moved some wires around and I got it! Running light works LP light works Switched brake light works Now just to clean up/shorten some wires, connect them up. And I'll be riding! Thank you!! Resolved! :) |

Title: Taillight Problem. Again... Post by Joshua8195 on 05/02/16 at 08:09:57 Wired up Lowbrow Customs taillight and finally got it working. Or so I thought. It worked perfectly for a few minutes and now when I turn on the bike after it has been sitting for a few days the taillights running lights come on as they should. but when i use the brake lever or pedal the whole taillight/running light stops working completely. Turn bike off, and back on, and taillight doesn't do anything. I have checked the wiring and there are no problems as far as I can tell. Any ideas? |
Title: Re: Taillight Problem. Again... Post by Dave on 05/02/16 at 08:19:29 It sounds like a problem with the ground to me. If the LowBrow light only had 2 wires - you would need to connect a ground wire to the mounting bolts to complete the light installation properly. |
Title: Re: Taillight Problem. Again... Post by Joshua8195 on 05/02/16 at 08:23:28 yeah that was the problem at first, there were no instructions and i didn't know it needed to be grounded. I grounded it and it worked great. Then all this happened. Do i need a better ground??? |
Title: Re: Taillight Problem. Again... Post by Dave on 05/02/16 at 08:33:33 You are really the only one that can troubleshoot what is happening. Do you have a volt meter or test light? You need to have power going to the light in the 2 supply wires (1 running light and 1 brake light), and a good ground to complete the circuit. Try running a jumper wire from the negative terminal of the battery (or the ground wire connection down on the right side of the engine case near the oil sight window) - and connect the jumper wire to the mounting bolt on the tail light. |
Title: Re: Trouble getting aftermarket taillight working. Post by Joshua8195 on 05/02/16 at 08:41:21 yeah I've got a voltmeter. There is power going where it needs to. Im gonna check out the ground now |
Title: Re: Trouble getting aftermarket taillight working. Post by Johnny57 on 05/02/16 at 09:27:54 Run a third wire from back of light. This is your ground and attach it to the black/white of the bike. Now the red and the black of the lowbrow light go to the brown and the white/black of the bike. Or viceversa if you wish. They correspond to the filaments and you do need to have a dual filament bulb. |
