Title: Fresh Battery. Bike wont start. No lights.
Post by Joshua8195 on 04/23/16 at 14:07:50

Just threw in a new battery, voltage is good, its charged up.

When I turn the key to the "ON" position none of the lights come on. No horn. Nothing.

I'm quite stumped.

Fuses are good and like I said battery is fresh.

Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Well, something ain't right. That's not a common thing.
You'll have to hunt that down, make sure you are turning the key right, kill switch, Check connections under the tank.

What were you wrenching on BEFORE replacing the battery?

as Justin has already pointed out ... you have a loose connection somewhere ...

disconnect and reconnect all the connections you can find ...

after this "check", turn the key to "ON", then run through turning the lights, ignition, horn, HAZARDS, passing and all other switches ON then OFF ... turn "OFF" key, then back on, flip ignition switch the press the START button ...

Yeah,, gotta ask this, I guess. Not everyone knows how much that matters.

our bike uses a left hand battery... did you get one with an "L"?

positive to positive, negative to negative.

This happened to me when I took off the tank and replaced it. I had no lights, horn or starter. When switching to "park" the tail light would come on. It took a while but I traced it on the wiring diagram to a break in orange wire.

I must have dislodged the connector on the right side under the tank when I pushed the tank back on. You can see or feel it just under the front of the tank on the large wire bundle. If you can pull it apart, it is not locked in place.

First of all thank you every one for your replies! I appreciate it!

I replaced the battery because it was dead. The battery is the correct battery. 1 positive and 1 negative.

I did have the tank off, to get it repainted. But it was running brilliantly after I put it back on. My only guess is something didn't make a proper connection under there so I'm gonna get under there and check that tomorrow. Other than that Im stumped.

Hopefully that works

One guy rode home, parked, went in the house, ate, chilled, came out, Nothing..

A connector under the tank had vibrated loose.

Yep....you need to check the connectors under the tank...they take the power from the wiring harness up to the controls on the handlebars.

Checked under tank. Everything was fine.

Went back to fuse box. Apparently yesterday when I replaced a fuse I replaced it with another bad fuse. Threw in a new fuse. Works perfectly.

Feel silly, dumb mistake.

Thank you for all the help ;D

Good thing taking a tank off of a savage is so easy. Makes me love this Bike even more. I would hate to do that on my ninja

Dude, at least you didn't "SELL" the bike outta frustration over an electrical issue ... which turned out to be a burnt fuse ... that's worth a beer or 3 ...  ;)

I've bought trail bikes and 3-wheelers for pennies on the dollar because the owners had no clue on electrical issues which turned out to be simple fixes like you found ...

Yeah, over at a friend's house and he had a problem with a turn signal. A few minutes in, and I saw it was a bad bulb. I asked if he had one, yeah, and I put it in. STILL didn't work. After fifteen frustrating minutes of troubleshooting I decided to check out the New Bulb...

Wrong,, he replaced a bad bulb and KEPT IT,,

Why would Anyone ever Keep a known bad fuse or bulb?
Just to be forced to test before installing?

I doubt you will ever do that again.
