Title: 150/90-15 Tire/ wheel assembly on 1995 Savage
Post by CodyT on 04/18/16 at 10:35:12

Its def time to have my rear tire replace for this summer. I always liked doing my own maintenance on my cars (BMW and Jetta) and am looking to do the rear tire myself. The good news is i got a great deal on a whole assembly off of a 97 savage build. Come with a new whitewall tire. The tire is a good bit larger though 150/90-15, my current is 140/80-15 (stock size). The info i have gathered is that it will rub on the swingarm while cornering at higher speeds surely ruining a the tire. I few people stated they grinded down or cut the swingarm slightly to give it enough clearance for the larger tire. My questions is how safe would this be. And if anyone else has had exp with this any input would be greatly appreciated!

following is the listing i purchased via eBay:
eBay item number:182082780989 (listed under SOLD items)

Thanks!

We aren't ignoring you......but the only one I know of that used that size tire was Denim, and he used it on a hardtail I believe.

That tire is just waaay bigger than we use.....140/90 is the biggest that is common.  I bought a used bike with a 150/80 tire, and the side of the tire had a lot of rub marks from hitting the fender bolts.

I am running a shinko 230- 150/90 15 on my bike,,,BUT, I replaced all bolts inside the fender with button heads, run both Kaw pulleys(moves the axle back in the swingarm) and have a 3.5'' cast rim. It must look weird on the stock narrow rim.
What brand tire is it in ww? Maybe a Shinko 777?

I believe its a shinko (prolly the 777). I figure I could cut the fender bolts down or replace them. I was worried more about the swingarm? So the tire can be adjusted back further on the stick swingarm??

And thanks for the replies... the part shouldn't show up for about a week.

this part just seemed like a great deal to me... better than paying the local guys $200-250 to do it. And this hopefully forces me into learning how to work on my bike. I love to do my own maintenance but I def wasn't brought up in a garage (I wish!)

Don't pass over the statement.......the Double Kawasaki Pulley conversion moves the axle all the way back to the end of the swingarm adjustment....Your tire may rub with the stock pulleys, as your axle will be farther forward.

And before you ask.....doing the Double Kawasaki Pulley conversion is a lot of work, and is most likely more costly than what you were not wanting to spend on the tire.
