Title: I need a taller backrest Post by striknein on 04/18/16 at 10:06:19 I'd like to pick up a tailbag for longer trips, but the stock sissy bar is pretty short. Does anyone know of a taller backrest that fits the OEM fender braces? |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by Blade on 04/19/16 at 01:22:08 I have looked for a long time but the only one I have seen for sale is this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291705461171?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It is still available. There are plenty of cheap Asian ones that bolt onto the side of the fender struts. |

Can we see a photo of that on the bike? That's sick! |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by Blade on 04/19/16 at 04:34:39 Sure - I'll put it on and get some daylight shots on the weekend. There is a bit of cleanup to do, handles etc. Here it is in it's proper stance, and showing the pullback angle. |

On tour I carried a 21" airline carry on suitcase. http://www.andruschak.net/savage/Paladin/Carry-on.mp4 The bracket is in the garage, free just for actual shipping costs. |

Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by justin_o_guy2 on 04/19/16 at 21:55:19 It certainly left a mark that I could have believed was a Jimmy Conners backhand with a skillet. I understand how that picture could cause someones guts to cringe. I still have the avatar on another forum.. I wish I had a full size print out. Id hang it up in the shop. |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by Blade on 04/24/16 at 04:20:46 First bolt up of the sissy bar. Must have made the measurements right as it fitted straight up. The angle is to match the angle of the new +4" forks - thanks to Greg from the site who helped make it possible. I'll do a write up of the bike in projects but if anyone wants to know details, happy to share. |

Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by verslagen1 on 04/24/16 at 08:22:30 Have you checked the ergonomics of that? I'd hate to hear that someone rear-ended you and you lost your head. |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by cheapnewb24 on 04/24/16 at 12:59:07 How about that stuff between the legs, if you know what I mean? It'd be a bad day for a fellow who had the bike fly out from under him just right. I tended to think the stock sissy bar was a health hazard, but I've since understood that at least it has some cushion... :-? |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by engineer on 04/24/16 at 18:19:06 Some of you may be too young to remember when a major safety effort was made to rid automobiles of hard and pointy objects in the passenger compartment. Fancy pointed steering wheel hubs etc. were responsible for many deaths in low impact accidents. Your metal working and design skills are very good but maybe it should be round on top. I have seen people and bikes flung around in many unpredictable ways in a wreck and it seems to me that a large pointy metal thing sticking straight up in the air might become a serious hazard in a crash. Just saying. |
Title: Re: I need a taller backrest Post by Blade on 04/24/16 at 20:05:04 Thanks for taking the time to comment on safety - IT MATTERS! There is a rounded steel cap that will be on the top of the bar while riding. It will be incorporated into a same shape leather bag fixed to the back of the sissy bar, The bike will only take on this sinister form in static displays. |
