Title: Exhaust baffle
Post by Redryder652 on 04/17/16 at 00:33:29

So I've got a mac performance upswept pipe, and last week the baffle started to rattle around. I've since then tried re riveting to a bigger rivet, but the aluminum rivets wear out even quicker. In a fit, I welded a 6mm but on the inside of the baffle, and got weld splatter all over the inside of the baffle. My question is, do you think some of the loose splatter can break loose and make its way back up the pipe into the head? I only ask because of an engine's back pressure.

What you're referring to is not backpressure, but exhaust reversion.

Noop,.. it's gonna' fire out back...

Tell your buddies to give you some lead...lest you'll give them some lead... ;D

So there's no risk of ruining a valve, or anything of that matter?

Never even thought about that, but, we have seen a good number of mufflers rot the baffles out. Nobody ever suffered any engine damage from sucking gritty stuff in.
There Are pressure waves that develop and you'll see a ridge, set at an angle, inside the end of the header at the head. The flow is down and out, and that is where the crud will go.

Once again, someone has posted something that has put me on a hunt.

exhaust reversion

Which leads to

Brake specific fuel consumption

And what comes next I haven't found yet.
Interesting stuff. Valve overlap, exhaust system efficiency, intake design and efficiency,
This is where I see the unsightly air box as beneficial.
