Was looking over Versy's head plug thread in the marketplace and wondered "why is there a plug here?" His instructions say to just push the plug in by hand (lubed with a little oil). Is this area not pressurized underneath? Why did Suzuki make this area accessible? Would it be better to not have a plug and have this place solid with the head?

Excuse my ignorance. Just wondering.

This area is adjacent to the exhaust port. So I suppose the opening provides cooling.
No there is not pressure underneath. There is pressure Above and oil.

I thought there was a head bolt under the oil plug and that was the reason for having it. Did I misunderstand something?

The hole is there to provide access the cylinder head stud....or more correctly the nut on top of it.. The 2 left side studs are exposed and getting to them is not a problem. The 2 right side ones are beneath the cylinder head cap.....the right rear one is within the cam/rocker area and is bathed in oil - the right front one is "under" the cam/rocker area and is accessed through a hole....and the hole has the famous "plug" to cover the hole that provides access. The only reason that Suzuki might have made it this way, is to reduce the amount of aluminum up by the exhaust port to decrease the amount of heat that is carried to other parts of the head (cooling as Verslagen stated).
