Is this acceptable for these one lungers? It's an old bottle and it says it isn't jaso certified. And also, is this oil conventional or synthetic? What would be better to use?

There really isn't any need to fool around with oil....Shell Rotella T or T-6 Synthetic is all the oil that is needed in the Savage, and it is very affordable.

Messing around with old oils - do you know how much ZDDP is in the oil, is it safe for wet clutches, does it have Friction Modifiers (Energy Saving).

The Rotella is the best bang for the buck and proven to keep these engines alive.

Don't idle on the sidestand..

Actually, the rating might give you a clue to how suitable it is and how old it is.

No guarantees, but if it doesn't talk about special energy-saving additives and it has an old rating like SJ, it might work well. You don't want SN oil.

We done need Zddp additive with Shell rotella do we? I'm about to do my first oil change on the bike, when ever I get the verslavy tensioner.

Right now, just do what you are doing.. it's okay.
Got guys with over 100,000 miles here,
Don't let it idle on the sidestand. Keep the idle up around 1,000 RPM, Ride, read, ask, you'll be fine...

The oil runs to the downhill/kickstand side of the engine. The uphill/right side doesn't get much oil to the cam.

Stand the bike upright and it's a different story! ;)
