Ran across an interesting video while searching alternative power....

The Sterling Engine... seen tons of home made videos of them made with soda cans, ect......
Thought it was kinda hokey, until I saw the video.... heck I was at Eglin from 84' to about 87', then got stationed at Hurlburt (which was an annex of Eglin for awhile until it became the Head of Air Force Special Operations) back in 91'

I'm going to do a bit of research on it.... I just found it interesting is all.... runs on hot air.... funny, the wife says at times I do too :-X

I remember visiting a restored antique house somewhere. The house had a water pump that was a Sterling Engine - the pump would pull water out of a well and pump it into a tank on the upper floor, and that is how they put running water in the house. The sterling engine predates the internal combustion engine and is very silent in operation, and it is safer than a steam engine and boiler. I never thought it could be used for anything that required more than a few HP - but that video proves otherwise.

That video is about 25 years old. So where are the Sterling powered cars? They have been trying to get that thing to work right for 200 years and haven't got past some demo models.

that's why they used a 75hp unit to replace a 100 and 150 hp engines.

another thing not mentioned is... from what I recall the stirling prefers to have constant speed. but that can be remedied with cvt.

You could use solar to power your home during the day, and some propane, gas, diesel, kerosene, lamp oil, wood, charcoal ect....to power the stirling at night charging the same battery pack.
Cloudy day? Fire up the stirling.
Windy day? Run the wind turbine.

Just thinking about alternative power for a remote camping cabin or some such. You really wouldn't have to use the torque of the stirling to run a generator with a belt. Just put your coil on the stirling shaft on the opposite side of the balance wheel, and your magnets in a housing around said shaft.
