Title: Engine leak, any advice?
Post by Graven754 on 03/28/16 at 11:49:39

My Savage(97) has leaked ever since I bought it second hand. It's got right around 10k on the bike and the leak seems to accumulate right under this black plug on the engine so i'm assuming the leak is from that plug, but you guys likely know something I don't. Every bit of advice helps before I tackle this issue. I can't do anything that I want to, to the bike until it stops leaking everywhere XD.

The picture isn't the best because the bike was relatively clean and the leak wasn't at its worse, but that is the plug I am referring too.

You'll have to pull the head cover and reapply rtv to seal that leak.

Under the decorative chrome cover on the top of the head cover on that side of the engine there is a rubber hose plugged into the head cover. That hose runs back to the airbox. That's the breather hose for the engine. Make sure that hose isn't kinked, collapsed or, if your bike is not stock, make sure the hose hasn't been plugged. If the breather isn't open it will cause that plug to leak. Someone on here plugged up the breather hose and blew that plug right out of his motor running down the expressway.
