Do you use NADA guides or Kelley Blue Book ?
or an average of both?

Buying or selling? I'm gonna look for what suits me. I have heard NADA is more accurate, but, who knows?
The NADA on the silver and white, engine guard and windshield equipped, choice the newbie was looking at was in line with NADA pricing , but I entered my xip code. Prices vary .
They are worth what you can get.

I tend not to use either....I look at Craigslist or eBay for the bargains.

The dealers in this area tend to want around $ 3,500 for really nice  "pre-owned" late models bikes....these are generally well taken care of an the previous owner rode it for a year or two and then wanted to get something bigger/badder/faster.  On Craigslist in this area you can get a really nice bike for $ 2,500 if you shop for a while.  There are a lot of really nasty, neglected, abused bikes for $ 2,000 where the seller hasn't taken into account the condition of the bike when setting a price.....and sometimes you can find some pretty nice bikes for $ 1,600-$ 1,800.  Beaters/project/parts bikes are in the $ 500-$800 range.
