Title: Hello!
Post by golden chicken on 03/20/16 at 20:29:08

Hi everyone.

I've been riding a 2005 SV650 for the past 5 years (44,000 miles--the bike has 52k total now) and I just bough a black 2005 S40 for my fiancée. It'll be her first bike.

I look forward to sharing our experiences with this bike and tapping the knowledge base here.

What are the miles and mods on hers?
Has it been parked for years?
Don't go pulling the plug until you clean out around it.
The petcock is probably not healthy, if it is, it's just a matter of time.
If it's been parked for years, take time to oil up the cylinder, get the carb clean, etc.
And don't let it idle at low RPM. That will kill the cam from low oil pressure. Idling on the sidestand looks to starve the high end of the cam, so, don't do that, either.

Safe, effective oil
Rotella T 15-40.

Good to know.

I didn't look at the exact mileage, but I think it's a little over 8000. It was my friend's brother's bike and it sat for a bit until my other friend bought it and put a couple thousand miles on it last year. I see it still has the original petcock. It appears essentially stock but for some LED rear blinkers.
