Title: Removing tins for paint?
Post by DesertRat on 03/04/16 at 17:33:04

I'm prepping for paint,

1. wondering if I have to remove the rear wheel to get that fender off?

2. Is there anything I should watch for when removing the tank? AND can I get all the gasoline out easier?

While the tank is off make sure the connectors under there are tight.

no, but it's a lot easier.
but if you take the shocks off and jack it up high you can do it.

J.I.C. anyone else runs across this, BCB has 20 videos that prove helpful for removing the tins (gas tank, side covers and fenders) -

The tank was a BIATCH to remove.

No way I'm getting the coil out without removing the air filter housing.

And the rear wheel has to come off to get to the bolts

took approximately 6 hours to get all the tins off and washed. Started with the easy ones last night and finished up this afternoon.

Pulling the tank is a lot easier with a raptor petc0ck. If you don't have one on yet you might as well put one on now, you're going to need it down the road.

+1 I got lucky and was one of the few who didn't have much trouble getting the tank off, but it was much easier with the raptor

The interference with the stock petcock...is the back of the petcock hits the upper frame backbone.  Most folks can't remove the tank without taking the stock petcock off....on a few bikes the manufacturing tolerances are favorable and you can wiggle the tank off.

The Raptor petcock is much thinner, and you can leave the fuel in the tank and the Raptor mounted and get the tank ON/OFF.
