Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by oldNslow on 03/03/16 at 12:51:19 14K. I'd say you got your moneys worth. I put one of those on about the middle of last summer. I'd better get ridin' or I might not live long enough to wear it out. :( |

Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by gerald.hughes on 03/03/16 at 16:29:23 I think that it is pretty obvious that the poor thing just died of old age. |
Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by Kris01 on 03/03/16 at 18:54:24 I'm getting slow. It took me a second to figure out what I was looking at! |

Me too, but a lot more than a second. It just looked like a tread mark on a parking lot. Like a car had been parked in the same spot for a long time. ::) |
Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by MMRanch on 03/04/16 at 08:12:31 Those "Wear-Bars" are almost non-existent ! :) What ya going to put back on it ? 14K miles on a low price tire make me wonder ... ya got any tips for extended tire life ? |

I'm getting Shinko 712's front and rear... (not to claim they're the best,... but they're cheap enough, perform well, and I like the look)... Not sure about long life,.. but, I tend to neglect tire pressure. Pressures often dropping to 15 or 20lbs before I fill back up to 33 or so. A possible theory is,... the varying of the pressure, wears more of the tire surface, rather than consistently running in the same strip. A low tire has a wider contact patch... (it hurts your mpg's a bit, but mpg is so good, it really don't matter)... Just a theory,... not saying it's good practice... ::) Here's a better pic of whole tire... (I was pretty neglectful)... :-[http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt82/serowbot/DSC00126_zpsdfr6fv6p.jpg |

Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by sw1991 on 03/07/16 at 17:34:59 The tires on my savage when I got it were in rough shape... they were the stock tires im assuming since thehy were dated 2002! its a 2003 bike..purchased in 2015. I actually rode them for 1000 miles until I got new tires (I know... I shouldnt have). Running shinko 712s with about 2500 on them and hope they get me through the spring and summer. |

I recently did the same thing.....I bought a 2002 bike with 3,800 miles on it, and the original tires. The bike was stored indoors and the tires were not cracked or weathered - but the rubber was noticeably hard. I didn't want to put on tires right before winter set in.....so I rode it for a month or two with the old tires on. They weren't too bad on dry pavement - but I would imagine they would have been treacherous in the rain. I was riding a bit briskly one day, and the rear end slid on one corner. A month ago I put some fresh Shinko 230's on the bike, and I went with the 130/90-15 and it looks great and works fine on the bike. It is actually a bit wider than the stock 140 IRC, and it is 1% taller. |
Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by Art Webb on 03/08/16 at 07:13:18 as a guy who's been known to ride on old hard tires due to finances, I have found that exact thing, they're not too bad in the dry (at my skill level) but treacherous as a bad woman in the wet |
Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/08/16 at 07:20:35 I thought the OEM rear was treacherous from day one. I rode it, knowing that its lack of traction and unpredictable feel was actually good training. The tires after it got Tested.. the pegs Will fold enough to pinch a foot against the engine hard enough to hurt. |
Title: Re: I think it might be tire time... Post by verslagen1 on 03/08/16 at 07:35:22 That'sa summer tire... nodda winter tire. 8-) wouldn't want to be caught out in the rain on that one. yes, 1st pic I thought was rubber left on asphalt. |
