Title: Big brake kit!

Love my Big brake kit! Thanks RycaShawn. You don't realize how bad the stocker is until you bolt on this beast.

Can't believe it's been 5 years since I built her. Treated myself to new rubber with the brake upgrade.

With all the talk lately of locking up the front end, does this lock up easier than stock? How likely is it to lock up?

I have not locked it up. Suppose it's possible, but this setup is very firm, responsive, no "sponginess" in the feel. It's not at all grabby, for lack of a better word.

Understood completely. I may have to try this out.

Also, the stock set up gave me a bit of an odd feel under hard braking, kind of a pulse like feedback feel. That is completely gone with this set up. Steady firm pull with a two finger grip.

anti lock brakes for S40= less fingers on lever  ;D

That is the same way I would describe it.  I have done some really hard braking with the Big Brake Kit....hard enough that I could feel the chassis shimmy and wiggle as the weight shifted forward and the back of the bike became very light.  The brake is not touchy or like an ON/OFF switch....it provides very good feel.

I am using EBC Organic pads in mine, and I am not using the stock master cylinder anymore,  as I switched to 7/8" handlebars and more compact handlebar controls.  I don't know how the different master cylinder I am using might have changed the feel of the new big brake.....but it is all the brake that the Savage Chassis will ever need.

The stock brake disc and caliper work OK if you have good organic pads and a disc that is in good condition.  Oldfeller, MMRanch, BigZuk have all proven that really hard riding in the mountains can turn the rotor blue or purple - but no one has ever had the brake overheat or fade.......most likely if you did a track event (on a Crusier?) and did constant laps on a race track, the stock brake system would not be up to the task.  With old factory brake pads or an aftermarket pad that is too hard.....the stock brakes can be terrible.  The big brake kit is definitely a nice improvement.

And if you just "grab" a big handful of front brake instantly..... you can get just about any brake to lock up.  If you apply the front/rear brakes progressively (but rapidly) and allow the weight to shift forward onto the front tire.....it is hard to get the front tire to lock up on good pavement - as the front tire has a lot of weight on it and a lot of traction as a result.  (Locking a front tire up in gravel, mud, wet pavement or while in a turn is a whole different issue and takes experience and practice to learn how to modulate the brakes and avoid locking up a wheel).

Fun stuff to look forward to, I have a brake kit sitting right here, waiting until I'm able to get back to work.
My engine is back together and just needs to slide back into the frame.
YEAH !!!
Eli's bike build needs to be finished up first though, he has been patiently waiting since my surgery last month.

Broken femur, right up next to my hip  :(
Ten days in (a Hungarian) hospital....metal pins inserted...Tramadol eaten by the handful !!
It's all healing up well though, and it's more 'discomfort' than 'pain'.

Sorry to hear about your foot, Lancer :(
Get well soon

Hungarian hospital ?  I've not tried that route.
My surgery was done in a Creek Indian Nation hospital locally.
No, I'm not Creek Indian.  The tribe bought the local county hospital a little over a year ago.  The have a lot more money than the county and are in a massive upgrade to the facility.  They serve everyone, not just tribal members.  My Podiatrist is from Tulsa and comes down one day a week to serve this area since we do not have a Podiatrist locally.

Hovis':  That sounds just like you to break a leg to better the rest of us in the "Big Break Kit Contest" .      Broken Leg certainly beats out my miserable "broken  tooth" entry ..    A speedy recovery . :)

Big Break Kit.... ;D ;D ;D very good!

Yes, I happened to be in Hungary when I landed  ;D hence a ten-day stay in hospital over there.
The bonus of that is that I've given up smoking tobacco....I had ten days of no nicotine (and no WiFi connection  :D ) .....so I haven't smoked for a month now  8-)

I didn't have insurance but the hospital treatment was free, as Hungary is in the EC, and was very good.
The meds that I was given when I left hospital cost me about US$15 for a month's supply. If I'd kept the receipt I could've claimed that back from the UK government...

I'll post a picture of the nice bit of Titanium I got as part of my Big Break Kit!
