Title: Lowering the sav? Post by savagegreenhorn7 on 02/28/16 at 14:58:36 anyone know a good easy way to lower the rear end of the savage? I would like to avoid cutting up the original shocks.. maybe a good alternative method? aftermarket shocks? |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by Dave on 02/28/16 at 16:09:31 Well...most of us try to raise the back a bit.....to get more suspension travel and a bit less rake up front. The stock shocks only have 1.5' of travel, and that really isn't enough when you hit the big bumps. The only way I believe you could lower it....is with struts. I don't think shorter shock will work, or the tire will hit things when the shock is compressed. |

Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by Trippah on 03/02/16 at 13:42:54 if you have unlimited time, you might look for a wheel with a smaller diameter, perhaps while converting to chain drive? Yet, given the short rebound at present, I wouldn't want to go there-unless I had a spare back. ;D |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/02/16 at 14:15:53 If you have speed bumps or any uneven places where you go, you might wanna look at the clearance you have now. They sit pretty low. |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by savagegreenhorn7 on 03/03/16 at 17:04:07 got it, I'm gonna go with struts, when I bought my bike it had progressive shocks on it that I feel heightens the bike a bit too much for my aesthetic pleasure |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by smokin_blue on 03/04/16 at 03:56:06 Do you know what model progressives they are? If you are going to sell them please PM or email me so we can chat. thanks! |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by savagegreenhorn7 on 03/04/16 at 14:44:58 I have no idea, ill look into it. I'll sell them for sure once I get all this stuff sorted with the struts and what not |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by Dave on 03/05/16 at 04:40:59 Maybe all you need would be a set of stock shocks to get the height where you want it. I really don't think struts are a possibility - unless you get a sprung seat. Even with the stock shocks and stock seat.....I have hit potholes that compressed my spine and sent an electric shock up my back - I can't imagine the pain or physical damage to my body if I had no rear suspension on the bike. |
Title: Re: Lowering the sav? Post by Demin on 03/11/16 at 05:36:13 I run struts on all of my bikes. If you need a little give, let a few pounds of air out of the tire...I'm 51 years old,280lbs and 6'2"I've had them with springs undere the seat, but at my size it makes bottoming out worse.Makes you a better rider. You actually have to pay attention to the road.I live in the pothole capital...Ohio. |
