Title: Footpeg Question and brake question
Post by Joshua8195 on 02/28/16 at 13:06:04

When I install my shifter-side foot peg it only folds down. Even with very little weight on it. I put the little metal piece in there the correct way but it still folds down super easily. if i try to fold the foot peg upwards it barely moves. Any ideas?

Also the front brakes are grinding a little bit while on the jack. the pads are making contact with the rotor. The wheel still spins freely. I know on cars they always make contact but just barely, is it normal for this bike? is there a way to adjust it? my other bike doesn't do it this loudly.

Thanks!!

Can't help on the foot peg.  I've never had one off.  Regarding the brake pads your observations sound fairly normal.  They don't have any means of retracting, they just squeeze when applied and release pressure when the brakes are off.  The pads get bumped out a tiny bit by irregularities in the disc but tend to drag a very small amount, enough to make a sort of scraping noise.  That way the pads are right there ready to apply pressure if needed and they are always close enough to the disc to keep out road debris.

I assume you looked and made certain that there is some friction pad material still left under the steel backing plates.  If the pads are worn off it makes a very serious scraping sound.

Maybe you should see if you can push the piston in a bit.  It might have some corrosion that is limiting movement.  Anyway they work just like most brakes.

Ok! Thank you very much!! That puts my mind to rest a bit. lol. I bought the bike from my buddy for super super cheap ($750) and have to do a few things to it. I replaced the brake pads because they were worn down to the metal and i wasnt sure if it was fine after i replaced them. That helped alot though! Thanks!

the peg isn't supposed to fold up and stay.
and if you mean it folds down below horizontal, you don't have together correctly.

I don't think there's any howto's for the footpegs but we do have the full parts fishe...

Disc brakes have a square-profile o-ring which primarily seals in the hydraulic pressure between caliper cylinder and piston, but its secondary function is to deform ever-so-slightly when the brake is applied. When hydraulic pressure is released, the o-ring flexes back, slightly withdrawing the piston back into the cylinder. A very light scraping when the wheel is turned and brakes not applied is pretty common.

If your foot peg folds down it is assembled upside down.
It cannot fold down, only upward.

that's the thing. i have it assembled properly according to the manuals and diagrams. ive tried it upside down, this way, that way, and every other way and it just doesn't work.

I replaced the little metal piece in there because the other was bent out of shape from the bike being dropped by PO. but the new one still doesn't hold the peg up..

?? this is extremely frustrating >:(

Joshua,

Post some pics of the foot peg. Someone on here will be able to see what is incorrect.

Does the right peg only fold down also?  If so, there's your answer  ;)

If not, are you certain someone before you didn't replace a left-side broken peg with a "right-side" peg?  Sounds probable.

here is the imgur link to some pics of the footpeg.

Let me start by saying i am trying to instal them on the forward controls. i have tried to put it in the stock location to isolate a problem but the same thing happens no matter where it is mounted.

Edit: idk why the imgur album is only showing one pic. trying to fix right now

thanks!!!!!! ;) ;)

It appears your bike has Routy's forward controls mounted.  Maybe someone that is familiar with those forward controls can help you.
