Title: coughing while at idle
Post by Matt_greatlakesstate on 02/20/16 at 16:41:55

Have an 01 savage. Jardine slipon, 150 main, and 55 pilot. 27k miles and still goin strong. Lately ive noticed after its warmed up if i am idling the exhaust pipe keeps randomly coughing every few seconds. The header pipe bolts are tight as well as the band clamp for the muffler. Any ideas? Thanks ........btw it was 55 degrees in michigan today and i couldnt help muself i went for a cruise  8-)

Yes i realize and when i get time i will be pulling the cover off. I bought the bike last year with 22k miles on it. But i still need to figure out this coughing thing she has been doing recently after warmup.

Coughing is an indication of a lean condition (or burnt intake valve or too tight valve clearance on the intake valves).

Check for an air leak.  The rubber intake boot and get old and crack. A 55 pilot jet is really big....so you shouldn't have any issues with too little fuel flow unless some corrosion or dirt got into the jet.
