I've got 12k on the clock, just did the tensioner mod, and the bike has never had a valve adjustment, how often should they be? Should I have had my first one already?

Suzuki recommends the first inspection at 600 miles and then every 3500 miles after that.
That doesn't mean they will need an adjustment every time but at 12K yours are overdue for a look.

The instructions in this link are excellent. They'll walk you through the process.

My valves are ticking and the have been like that for a few thousand miles, what could happen in my case? And is it likely? Btw I'm getting it done by my local guy, I'm not comfortable doing it myself.

if you have the right feeler gauges
if you don't it's a PITA

I just attempted putting a .003" feeler gauge in between the exhaust tappets and valves, I was able to get it in them but they were tight. I guess I'm almost sort of lucky. It's going to the shop in 2 days anyways. The intake side I didn't even check.
