Hello I'm just getting ready to put a new gas tank on my savage having just removed the stock one... I'm just wondering what to do with this little wire cluster thing here? Is there a plug? Should you leave it as is? Is it important to have access to? I am quite confused :-?

That plugs into the harness that goes to the speedometer assembly on the tank for the turn signals, neutral light, high beam, etc.

Oh yeah I know that, I'm wondering what to do with it after I put on a new tank that doesn't have the corresponding plug. Ya know?

The speedo assembly does have a corresponding plug and there's enough clearance. It just sits there after being connected.

I presume you don't need all those indicator lights?
Just seal it up with tape and tuck it away somewhere.

Well if you aren't going to have any indicator lights....how are you going to know when the bike is in neutral? Or when your turn signal is on?

I am not entirely sure that the bike will start/run without the neutral indicator light being retained in the circuit? The starter switch and the side stand switch all monitor what the neutral switch is doing - but perhaps they don't care if the indicator light is still in the circuit? My thought is that it will still work without the indicator light....otherwise you could be stranded somewhere if the neutral light were to burn out....and that certainly is not a good design.

It might be best to confirm that the bike still operates normally with that plug not connected to anything.

Dave: that's a good point... I certainly would like to know when I'm in neutral at the very least. Is there an aftermarket neutral indicator on the market compatible with the ls650?

I believe any bulb will work - both the Trailtech Vapor and the Speedhut gauge I now use have LED lights, and they work fine. If you use LED's be aware that you will need to wire the neutral light so that the positive wire attaches to the right side of the bulb....the neutral light might operate backwards from the other bulbs in the indicator panel.

On both the Trailtech and the Speedhut gauges - the indicator lights can't be seen to operate in direct sunlight. I ended up installing some very bright LED bulbs, and I had to put a resistor on the blue indicator light for the high beam.....as it was much brighter than the yellow and green lights and would make spots in your eyes if you looked directly at it.
