First I ordered Silver everything --- Then I saw the cover of Cycle World with the Indian Scout on it . The Scout fuel tank has black base with gray side plate with white "Indian" decal on on the gray. Really caught my eye. ! So I ordered a white pair for my "now" gray side plates. The Silver pair needs to go somewhere.! ::) Spring is still a several weeks away ! |

It dried to a dull finish >:( I ordered two cans of that stuff :( The top coat is now 100% Clear Polyurethane . Its curing in the kitchen by the wood stove now . I'll put it on maybe Tuesday if the weather warms above freezing . :P I also put on Mini-Ape-Hangers while I have easy access to the wires , cables and things. :) I'm kinda itching to take it for a ride ! :P Then its back to the tire. I have a buddy that runs a tire shop that is donating some of that "Super Tire Lube" . |

Preparation: Allow basecoat paints at least 30 minutes dry time prior to using the 2K Spray Max Urethane Aerosol Clear Coat. Apply 2-3 coats of aerosol clearcoat. Allow 5-10 minutes between coats. After allowing approximately 24 hours dry time, It may been polished by hand or machine. |

Usually you will want to apply at least 3 good coats of clear first then allow 24-36 hours before sanding with 1500-2500 grit wet sand paper. Then use a good quality buffing system such as 3M Perfect-It for a mirror shine. Question: Can I use this clear coat over other spray paints? Answer: Depends, SprayMax clear coats are generally very forgiving with what they are applied over. However, I would highly recommend a test panel prior to spraying over your whole project. Usually if you apply the paint, then after it has dried about 1 hour but not more than 3 hours is the best time to apply clear coat. If the paint surface is already fully cured, it is recommended to sand the area with 800 - 1000 grit sand paper prior to applying clear coat. |

Now the Clear stuff is out there. It looks good . 8-) Well I still have the other can of the High $ stuff if need be . Thanks for the tip Kris , I'm thinking of all the scratches on my S-40 tank . That polishing thing do I need any special equipment ? I've seen those polisher things at Harbor Freight , but never thought about buying one ... |

As the solvent is evaporating from the freshly applied paint, the surface of the paint becomes cooler than the air temp. When this happens in high humidity - the cool surface of the paint can cause the humid air to condense water onto the surface, and this can result in the paint getting a hazy surface instead of a gloss. If the finish is smooth (no runs and very little orange peel) - then sanding is not necessary. Buffing is done with a polisher, and most polishing of the 2K paints is done with a foam pad (enamels and lacquers normally used a wool pad). You start with a a buffing compound and a stiff foam pad, then use a polishing compound on a gentle pad to remove the swirl marks. I recently bought the Harbor Freight buffer and I was surprised how well it works.....I gave my 30 year old 1 speed buffer away after using this Harbor Freight buffer. http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-electronic-polisher-66615.html#reviews The large 7" pads are great for cars - but for motorcycle work I bought some 4" pads as they give better control. You won't keep the compound from flying around, so it is best to throw towels or blankets over anything you don't want to throw some compound on. This is where I get my pads....I buy the compound at the local auto paint store. http://www.autogeek.net/ I would suggest you find a paint or detail shop and ask them what they would charge to buff it......that will save you from buying $ 100 worth of supplies to do one tank. Or....I can bring my stuff to one of the Dragon Runs (or if you come up to KY in August), and we can buff the darn thing! |

I'll plan on bring the Harley in August . ! 8-) it looks good now with a layer of Polyurethane for the top coat and will probably be just fine for years to come. My Yellow Savage Polyurethane top coat was still looking good after 6 or 7 years when I sold it , and that was the "Old Style" polyurethane. :-/ It was Sunday when I put the 2K paint on . The sky was clear , and the front room of the garage was (70 degs. or so) warm. That stuff just dried dull . :-[ I did get some 400 grit paper to sand with to help keep the (Orange Peal) stuff out of the mix. But I been threaten to "Remove that THING out of the Kitchen" , so I'm calling it "Good enough" . ::) I've got the fuel pump in thawing out the rubber seal now so I can put it back on. |

The floor was so rotten you could watch the road go by under your feet. There was nothing on that car that worked right. A junkyard offered him $100 for it and he accepted. Before we delivered it he gave the Rochester carb to his soon-to-be brother-in-law for his '68 GTO. When the guy at the junkyard saw the missing carb he only offered $50. My buddy accepted it! ;D |

It was (is) different . They're almost too high :-? , I'll try it out for a trip or two , might keep them but will be looking for "Just a little bit shorter" . :) The "Tire" project is next .
