Title: my first bike!!! (high quality pics)
Post by natep40 on 01/04/16 at 12:05:27

Hi everyone!

This is my first post, so I figured I would share my quick story and some pics of my bike.

specs:
2000 suzuki savage ls650
pearl canyon yellow
6,800 miles

I got her this summer and put about 500 miles on so far. I passed my motorcycle safety coarse in PA last summer and got my license. I got this bike for $1,000 cash. It was in excellent condition and just needed all the chrome cleaned up with some Never Dull and she was looking great!

So far this is what I've done this winter:
4" z bars
black iso grips
axle mount side plate relocation
LED plate frame
Front mini chrome bullet signals(also running lights)
Rear mini chrome bullet signals
Bikemaster mini mirrors(not installed in pics)
plastidipped front fender flat black
removed rear fender rails, sissy bar, and front frame reflectors.

I love this bike and it's been a blast already in the first few months that I've owned it. I can't wait to get out and ride with all my new upgrades next summer! Thanks for looking.

Beautiful bike. I like the color.  :) I paid $1000 for mine, and mine was uglier and beat up (and still is).  :P

You got a good deal on yours. If that one was available close by when I bought mine, it's possible that I would have bought it instead. Of course, there's value to an ugly, beat-up bike-- there's not much to lose if you wreck it. ;)

Best regards,

Welcome! that's a sweet ride, does look cleaner without the big struts on the side, and the flat black fender is a neat touch, reminds me of the hi performance Mopars of old

Welcome to the most useful site on the interweb! I've often thought about 'Z' bars instead of tracker bars, but never saw a S40 with them until now. They look great, I may try them too. Good work! 8-)

thank you. it's a nikon d60 and ever since I got my 50mm 1.8 lens, I use that most of the time for the nice blur effect.

Best regards,

they're from ebay. the listing title is "Chrome Bullet Turn Signal Dual Filament Bulb Running Marker Light Victory Buell" and the seller is ibuy.isell.

they're really nice and being dual filament and 2 wire, i easily hooked them up to the front as running lights with the stock wiring.

So I presume that's what is on the rear also? I like the slimline look, and those may give me a little more clearance I need where my saddle bags wedge up against my stock rear signals.

If you did the rear also, was it a straight hook-up with no special needs?

Thanks!

Actually I got the rears for free second hand and they're only single wire so they're not running lights. I want to buy another set of the two wire dual filament for the rears eventually for some added safety. I assume splicing the running light wire into the stock tail light wiring would be easy.

My front and rear signal housings are the same though so they match cosmetically at least for now.

If you make the rear signals function as running lights - the lenses have to be red.  It is illegal to have yellow running lights in the rear.  (That is why the stock bike only has yellow running lights/turn signals in front - and only yellow turn signals in back).

Dave,
It looks like the fleabay listing shows them with red and amber lenses. Would those with the one red and one black wire work as running lights if you ties in the running light to the existing wire going to the rear running light and the other to the existing rear signal wire, or does it need to be a 3 wire?

The number of wires (and color) isn't always a good indication of the light having a dual filament bulb.  If the bulb is a dual filament and you have only 2 wires - then the red would be the bright bulb, the black would be the low powered bulb, and the housing is the ground.  If the light is a single filament bulb, then the red is the (+) power and the black is the (-) ground.

you can also make a single filament light a running light / turn signal, by wiring it to go OFF when the blinker is engaged
I used to know how to do that, but it slips my mind these days
