Title: Fender rails
Post by darthesteban on 12/31/15 at 06:50:02

Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase fender rails without the sissy bar mounts, probably from an S40 for my 1988 Savage. I cannot find the any without sissy bar mounts, however.

I believe the fender rails were changed in 2006 so they no longer had the sissy bar mounts built in.  They are pretty much interchangeable between years - the clearance between the rail and fender may be a bit different.

My 2005 had the single seat and no sissy bar hookup.

I just looked at the part list.  It seems 2004 was the last year for the sissy bar, and 2005 was the first year without it.

Rails can be switched.  Find someone looking for a sissy bar for their S40 and swap even.

Why does one want rid of the sissy bar? Is it more for looks, or is the sissy bar a hazard?

Dave, you otta get that dog, stand in the same place, camera same distance away, so we can watch it grow into those feet.
I was in Tractor Supply today. Some chick had a dog, about half grown. The feet just didn't fit yet.

Passenger seat is only suitable for a child or small woman. Most of whom last about 15 minutes before the horrifyingly terrible seat quality chases them off.

Bike looks a lot cleaner wth a solo seat and real rear fender. Deep six the stock rear fender. Use the front section of an early 2 piece seat. Add FLR touring bars. Add round mirrors and side mount 7" headlight. Bike goes from being an anime joke to respectable.

:-? What are you talking about?

Seems like the sissy bar has it's uses, like for luggage, helmet hanger, and whatever, but it could be a hazard. It's one more thing sticking out to get hurt on.

But then... I put mine back on after the PO removed it, so who am I :-/.

I bought WDs sissy bar and rails for exactly that reason, to attach a sissy bar bag to
hopefully it's long enough, do i keep the bike
I do agree with WD that the bike looks cleaner his way, and IMO the S40 isn't really a good 2 up mount unless you're skinny and skinnier

Kind of an inside joke.

Where do you suggest I get a new rear fender? I want to put kind of a tracker or bench seat on it and get rid of that ugly taillight as well.

Or use the existing fender with a combined rear light underneath - (original '87 seat has been trimmed down) -

Combined rear and brake light-

Blade, where did you get that rear light?

I picked it up on Ebay from a company called 48 Express.

Item number:
231642915953

Or type in: 12v universal tail light 23 LED.

It cost the princely sum of $15, and also has a number plate light built in.
