Title: 1995, whats it worth?
Post by stewmills on 12/20/15 at 20:51:14

see link to bike post close to me. http://columbusga.craigslist.org/mcy/5303143337.html

seems the carb is off and they dont know what they are doing. think its worth it if its all there. I'd just get it running and sell it for a small profit if there is any potential margin.

make sure the starter turns the motor over.
if it has a dead battery take one and jump it.

also ask if it's a four speed.  tank emblem has me suspicious.

also missing the tool box cover.

Thanks versy. i noted the obvious atuff missing in the pic and definitely will make sure its all there.  good note on the battery and starter check.

is it to be avoided if its a 4 speed...even if i would just clean it up and sell it?

this claims it is a 5, but I'll ask if it is still available and i hear from the owner.

kbb says fair trade is $875, he's asking $800 with it apart and not running.

main concern is correct year. 95 has a different wiring diagram.
but yes 4 speed doesn't have the starter torque limiter and can suffer from shutdown kickback, can break teeth or the starter boss.

What can you get for it After you fix it?
How certain are you that you can?
You need to buy it cheap enough to be able to make money on the risk.

In this area you can buy nice running bikes for $ 1,500 - $ 1,800 - so you can expect that you only have a potential for $ 700 - $ 800 of room to get it running and sell it.  And you have the cost of the title transfer and taxes if you put it in your name before selling it.

The recent project bike I bought with only 3,800 miles on it needed a camshaft and rockers, a Versy head plug, and the work to put them in.  The bike runs great now and took some work - but overall it was a fun project and the bike runs great now.

What does a camshaft and rockers for these days?  Thanks.

Best regards,

I checked NADA:

By that, $800 is a bit high. However, if you enjoy tinkering with bikes, it might be okay if it meets other criteria

--are the tires in good shape?
--do all the lights work?
--is the battery in good condition? Does starter turn over decently?
--is it free of any cosmetic damage?
--do you have space/time for it? Can it sit around while you sort out the carb issues without being an inconvenience?
--big question: is the carb dissassembled, "in a box"...pieces may be missing...?

In my neck of the woods that bike is only worth 650.00. . .maybe 7 if it truly JUST needs carb work. I bought a running 2002 with 3500 miles for 1300.00. But this is north a ways. Makes a difference.
