Title: Will you go?
Post by raydawg on 12/18/15 at 03:57:30

I am thinking I will fly to Cuba after they get all the details ironed out.
I would love to see the Island, food, music, etc.

I will wait to see how security at the terminals, etc, evolve, then seriously think about it.

Anybody else?

the powers that be are counting on folks like you. They're counting on the "tourist" dollar.

I'd love to go...  it's a timing thing.
Don't want to go too early,... before they have the infrastructure to handle tourism.
Don't want to go too late,... after it becomes Disneyland...

I want to see it like the Rat Pack did...  hipper, wilder, and sexier, than Vegas.
Hope they manage to keep all the old cars, too...
I want a time travel experience...

My thinking exactly, I might be too romantic, but I like the time stamp and charm of era. I can imagine others have a different view of it however, kinda like how we are removing history from the south, sorta thing, as if that will change things.....

I hope they realize what they have...

I want,.. no cell phones, no flat screens, etc...
I want,... coin operated pay phones, wrist watches, elevators with operators...

It'll never happen... not the way I want...

My dad went to Cuba way back around 1922 as a kid and collected a bunch of post cards of different buildings and sights while he was there. I have always thought it would be way cool to visit Cuba and try to find where the pictues for the post cards were taken and take my own modern set. Don't know if I'll have the chance but it's a dream. :)
Saw something simular done with pictures taken by GI's in France during WW2. It really was impressive.
Not sure if I would want to see Cuba after it gets all cleaned up for the tourists but I bet the food would be worth the trip anytime.

I want,.. a dress code... no T-shirts, no sneakers, women must wear dresses, coat and skinny tie for men after 7pm...

Pretty sure Socialism destroyed the place, it will never be like it was pre-Castro but at least it gets to skip the 60s/70s architecture that pollutes many an American college campus. As a cigar enthusiast I am aware that all the good seed went to places like the Dominican Republic and then decades of selective horticulture have vastly improved the plant beyond anything that is now grown in Cuba. The idea of the superior Cuban cigar is history, mostly junk now.

I would be happy to wake up one morning and discover this was all a diversion for Bay of Pigs II and that the island had been completely wiped of Socialism and that the people can begin the long healing process. Oh well, I can dream.  :)

Dane, yes, we can dream.
War if might always results in the same scars, at least the blood was not spilled in vast amounts there.
I am not minimizing the life changes and heartache Castro inflicted on people, just trying to look at it from a different perspective.
The best medicine could be people to people, giving and Shari g and supporting one another.
I think looking forward instead of behind, ensures a better footpath, of walking into the future.....
