Title: Phone a friend...
Post by Serowbot on 11/21/15 at 09:58:59

I pulled the original Telephone thread, at the OP's request, as it had become too confusing... .
...but,.. the topic has merit.
There was some interest expressed...
Let's try again...

We are speaking of ways to have some kind of road assistance program for Savage riders...

If anyone feel's that having a members personal phone number will be a comfort on the road,... just send them a PM and ask...
They will say yes or no...
Keep it in yer' wallet, purse, or stashed on your bike...
Call them before you get in too deep with a mechanical problem...
Don't go tearin' yer' bike into a million pieces,.. then call...  ;D...

Comments?.. Ideas?...
Is there some way of organizing this beyond a simple PM request?...

Peace,
Serow  8-)...

PM me your phone number if you are close to Auburn AL and need help, tools, parts or a ride. I'll call you asap. Happy to help and offer up my shop and tools.

I think this is a great idea, but like Bot said, it can be confusing. My only problem is I am out on the east coast, not too many come by this way. But if you are, you are welcome to call me and I'll do what I can. Or if you come out this way for a visit, maybe we could meet up.

I'm not really on the coast, maybe 90 miles from it. But that's closer than a lot of you guys.

Really? Confusing? I didn't run and help JJ. She called. I talked her through it. Trust me, it's faster, easier, just trade numbers.
I have no idea where she was. But the area code ain't local.

It doesn't matter where you are.
It's not complicated.

I presume this is a "I need help NOW" scenario.

This could be handled via a sticky message somewhere.
First entry explains what the message thread is for.
Then each person who feels they can provide phone and/or face-to-face support can post a message stating (as an example)

1. Where they are/ Time Zone

2. I can do phone support
When they can be available for a phone call

3. I can do face-to-face support
What they can do for face-to-face
  A. tow
  B. place to stay
  C. place to fix the bike
  D. what ever

Person with problem goes to sticky thread.  Sees who they feel might be able to assist them with their problem based on what they can do.
Person with problem checks the home page to see who is online.
Person with problem PMs chosen person.

Sounds like it might work.

I have no idea if this is what JOG envisions.
They got each other's phone numbers somehow, and I am just guessing it was a PM started by somebody.

JOG is suggesting we exchange numbers now, I do believe, rather than wait till we're stuck in the great wide open
Other have suggested a lift controlled by the mod team (number givien out at the time of trouble
I can go either way

Well, let me try again. I'm confused about how this could be even minimally confusing.
If you aren't confident in your own abilities to solve a problem
And you might need someone to talk you through the troubleshooting and repair, then you might be ahead to have a phone number or two in your pocket.
If you want someones number, ask them.
The responsibility to not be inconsiderate of the people who gave their number out is something to consider. And, having given mine, I understand that an emergency is an emergency. If I get a call from someone who was taking a midnight ride, I'll do my best to help.

If I was a newbie I'd be asking Dave, Row, Versy, and maybe others.
OF is no slouch, for sure.
My failure to mention the name of those people who are qualified is not anything but my soggy brain.

Hey ya'll. I live in Spring, TX, basically north Houston. I am nowhere closing to having good knowledge of this bike but I do have tools and generally do not mind getting dirty. If I am not at work or engaged in something urgent I am willing to help in any way I can. If you plan to be in the area and you want my number just p.m. me. I call always help you call youzguyzs to talk us through a repair.

What can I say. I know what I know and know what I do not know.
