Title: Did it AGAIN ... doh
Post by DesertRat on 11/14/15 at 12:49:39

cruising down the freeway at 75+ and bike dies without a hiccup, like instantly.

WTH?

pull over, first glance is at the fuel filter: BONE DRY

at this point I'm laughing hard, flipped to reserve and pulled into the nearest gas station.

The little combination locks made for suitcases have three number combinations and fit on the cables in the handle-bar area.   They are great for keeping track of when ya filled up last.   I refill about every 100 miles or so .   ;)

Not as much fun as running out of fuel once in a while --- but it works .  :)

I generally just start looking for gas when I see 00 on the odo- 100 - 200 - 300, you get the idea

my problem is that I get caught up in just riding, not much attention paid to the speedo or even remembering the last time I filled up.

They sell precut letters,, self adhesive.
You look at something, helmet, rear view, Anything, just a period, on a mirror, Heck, a piece of black tape, cut a tiny piece off, stick it on your mirror, every time you see it, you'll think
Gas.

both
and if you still run outta gas, well, you just proved you got a sense of humor
personally, by the time I get close to 100 miles, my butt hurts so bad I'm looking for an excuse  ;D

Even with a 5 gallon tank and getting 100 mpg, once you make it to the 100 mile mark, you really should get off and stretch a little. It's always better to stay sharp and alert and not fatigued.

Old Rider, you think YOU'RE cheesy?  I use a grease pencil to write the odo miles of the last fillup on the R/H switch housing, right under the kill switch.

I didn't even buy the pencil; I nabbed it at work!  Talk about CHEAP!  ;D

Little tid-bits like coordinates of & call signs for contacts, radio frequencies, and other nice to know stuff like that so you can get to where you need to go and can talk to the correct contact on the ground or in the air.
Things like that come in handy.
You can get a lot of info like that while you are trucking around and being able to write it down quickly and have it right in front of you for easy reference is very handy, especially when things get very busy ... like dodging bullets and rockets while going about your mundane job of flying around delivering food, bullets and people ... oh, and checking fuel and keeping stuff out of whirly parts.

that would be the first thing I'd write on the shield of a helo (could I fly one) "keep things out of whirly bits"
seems sort of high priority

When in the air force as a weapons troup, we had to test the armament systems to ensure they would work when needed.
After each test was completed, for a "me" reminder (we always documented in the aircraft forms, but sometimes the forms were under review and were not on the plane) I would put a blue oyster cult symbol on the lower left side of the switch panel with a grease pencil, small, but visable, so if I climbed in I would see that the test had been completed.
Well, the symbol is kinda like a cross with a dot in the middle and the bottom leg is a backward/upside down question mark.
I got a complaint from the flight chief, and was told to stop putting the mark on the panel anymore.... they thought it was some kind of evil cult sign....
After telling the crew chiefs of the planes what it was, and that the band sang "Don't fear the reaper", they told the pilots, what it was and why I did it.
A month later, the flight chief told me there were four right ups in the forums that said "no reaper sign on weapons panel".... LOL :)
I had to check to make sure we had tested the planes ......
