Title: Gas in the air box
Post by Gus on 11/04/15 at 07:37:04

Bike runs peachy; no black smoke and plug is burning clean. Original carb. Never molested as far as I know. I was told by PO that the petcock has been replaced with some Polaris upgrade aftermarket petcock because of the same problem.
I'm assuming the float is out of adjustment unless youse  guys know of some other problem common to the Savage.

How much gas we talking?

are you turning the gas off when you're finished riding?

Always shut gas off that's what is part of the mystery. See pic.

If the vac line is blocked off,.. there's only one way for fuel to flow in...
So, if it is indeed fuel,... it must be getting past the float valve...

Check float level,.. check hinge for smooth action,... clean the float valve and seat... make sure the float does not leak (shake it to see if it's gas logged,... and drop it in a tub of water to see that it floats)...
If it still leaks,.. you need a new valve and seat...

No more miles than this thing has see since new it probably needs a new valve and seat. I bought it about 3 weeks ago with 2900 miles on a 2002 model year. It has 3600 now.[ch55357][ch56848]  maybe I'm riding I too much[ch55357][ch56860]

Thanks props,
Were you able buy it at hardware store, or did you go to Zuki dealer?

Check your oil level.  It is possible that gas got into the cylinder, then down past the rings.
This has happened to me twice. (once per bike).  Bad o-ring on the float seat both times.
I bought rebuild kits... about $20   K&L 18-5064   Has everything you need.

We should try to talk Lancer in to stocking the K&L 18-5064 as he doesn't murder us on shipping costs.

My local Zuki dealer has just the washer for sale and in stock. I'm finding this, little shop to be an invaluable asset. They are a Vespa dealer too. I've got an old Vespa and they keep lots of parts around for that too.
