Title: Bounce maximum
Post by kuri77 on 10/29/15 at 16:24:26

On the highest bounce back from say a giant pothole what is the max that the lowers will go up the forks?  Or how far down from the lower tree?  Why, because I want to mount my turn signals below the lower tree.  Is that clamp in danger of being smacked?  The shiny part of my forks is only about 60% of that distance so it would seem okay however  I haven't hit any severe potholes yet.

The fork travel is listed in the manual as 5.5" if this is what you need.

Due to the locating tab and the type of clamping used, the OEM turn signal mount can not be installed below the lower triple clamp. You'll have to get an aftermarket mount.

On my 05 the "locating tab" is just a dimple.   Easy Dremel work.  I carry mine on a rack and never tie down more than half compression...still room for the bracket.

If you got it in hole that went within the bracket width of the top....you would either crash or launch into orbit.  ;D  ;D

After checking it out, the tab is nothing I can't fix by drilling a hole for a metal locating dowel/pin on the upper surface of the clamp and a small hole drilled in the bottom of the lower tree. Glad you mentioned it though since I'd forgotten about it.  Thanks for helping.

Thanks for that info.  I measured and there is 6 1/4 inches between bottom of tree and fork lower so with 5.5 travel plus 1 1/4 for the clamp I'm only short a half inch which I think is no problem unless I hit the mother of all potholes.  Hopefully my sight and reflexes are good enough to avoid anything that big.
