Title: 0-60 times Post by Dave on 10/26/15 at 04:45:40 My new Speedhut GPS has a 0-60 time feature....and yesterday was the first time I ever tried it. I most likely lost a little bit of time at the start as I really have never tried to get the bike moving really quickly from a standing start, and with practice I could do better. I got a time of 6.03 seconds. The stock bike time is reported to be 8.7 seconds. http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictures/suzuki/ls_650_savage-1987.html The 6 seconds is fast enough to beat most touring Harley's - but not the stripped bikes. My speed is also really slow compared to most bikes with multiple cylinders - most sport bikes can cut my time in half. http://www.zeroto60times.com/body-style/motorcycle/fast-slow-0-60/ I have pretty tall gearing with the double Kawasaki pulley conversion, and going back to the stock pulleys most likely would help my acceleration. My engine has the 95mm Wiseco, Stage 1 cam, Mikuni 36mm roundslide, a little work on the head, and a free fowing exhaust. My bike weighs about 320 pounds and I weigh about 160. I am happy with the results, and the engine modifications I have done have really made for a responsive and nice running engine. It is not a finicky engine.....it runs smoothly and runs just like a stock one - but with a bit more power.....the only downside is I have to use Premium fuel - which means I spend an extra $ 0.80 for a tank of fuel at the current fuel prices ($ 5.08 instead of $ 4.28). |

Felt like a six second run to.me. My smile was not diminished by my knowing faster exists. I did enjoy that bike. More than any other, I truly got the whole experience. |

(I buy gas at the Shell as they don't have a blender pump and the nozzle for Premium is separate from the Regular nozzle) I really don't know of anyone around here that has a Dyno. |

It is a common measure of performance here in the US. Lancer: Your 4.8 second 0-60 time is impressive....I suppose that was REX that did that. I used to be good at fast starts when I raced motocross - but that was a lifetime ago and I have never tried those kind of starts on the Savage. I also have the very tall gearing.....I should change back over to the stock pulleys and see how that changes the 0-60 time....and I might as well try a 1/4 mile time as well. |

Title: Re: 0-60 times Post by LANCER on 10/30/15 at 07:14:54 That was the first incarnation of REX with the following as best as my memory serves: -94.5mm Suzuki piston, stock compression -silicone carbide cylinder -Stage 1 camshaft -opened outer areas of exhaust port -VM carb with UFO and DAJ + K&N -home built header with good muffler -heavy clutch springs -stock belt drive -Progressive 12" rear -20 wt. oil in front Fairly new tires I spent a good week or two doing 0-60 & 1/4 mile runs with the Veypor to insure exact speeds and times, then plugged that raw data into their computer program to produce the final results. Of course the raw times were good as is but the power and torque calculations had to go through the computer program. Anyway, I would do a few runs and tweak the carb; run and tweak; run and tweak. Stop to cool down and go again. I think it was autumn so the air was cool, and it was cloudy. The 0-start takeoffs were a bit difficult. I could not just spin the rear tire with my weight on it so I had to feather the clutch, but the torque was good enough that with a near full power t/o the front end did not want to stay down. I was leaning over the tank to help keep it down but it still came up for a little while until about the time I was able to let the clutch completely go. Hitting 2nd got a little bobble and 3 was a bit smoother. It seems like I was in the middle of 3rd when I hit 60. The stock belt drive did help acceleration. |

Now, what percentage of the busted ones were stock springs and what percentage had been modified? FWIW, the Modification I did wasn't hoot. I stuck one lousy flat washer under each spring. What's that, 15, 20 thousandths? |
