Title: 2009 S40 Tube Size?
Post by matt1995 on 09/29/15 at 18:24:24

Hey all,

Quick and easy question. Finding the tire size was easy for the bike, but I couldn't find anything specifically about tube sizes. What tube size is needed for front and rear tires?

Best,
Matt

Use the same size as the tire.

Alright. Got it. Second follow up stupid question number two aha.

If I'm using a tubeless tire with the tube. Won't there be two places to inflate the tire? The inner tube valve stem and somewhere on the tubeless tire? How does that work? Setting tire pressure? Maybe I'm logically missing something....

Best,
Matt

The inner tube will have a valve stem. The tire will not.

FYI, on the rear, get a 90-degree valve stem that points to the right side. Filling/checking the air will be easier.

Edit:
Get a 90-degree valve stem and MOUNT IT facing the right side. There's no such thing as a "right side valve stem". Just clarifying for ya.  :)

On a tubeless tire, there is a separate stem that mounts to the wheel (not the tire).  ;)

I've been working on cars for years, and I buy a bike, and all of sudden I become dumb....

I know the feeling! I've restored old cars from the ground up but working on my bike... Different story!  ;D

The part number "TR87" comes to mind. Maybe someone will chime in to confirm. You really just want a 90 degree stem however they want to call it. I think the part numbers just describe the length and angle.

I got this one from Rocky Mountain but went with the 140/90 15 rear tire so you'll need whatever size to fit your tire.  The valve stem is PV-78.

Bridgestone Standard Motorcycle Tube With PV-78 Valve Stem 140/90x15

Oh, and I took my wheels to a shop to have the tires mounted and I specified to mount the 90 degree stem "brake side" on the rear but they put it on belt side.  I didn't notice until I was putting the wheels back on.  I didn't feel like going back so I just left it.  Definitely not ideal but still better than a straight stem.  Just a word of caution if you have someone mount your tires.

So glad I did my own....I even got the straight stem pointed the right direction.

I think... 8-)

I never had a problem. Just rolled the bike till the stem was low, toward the rear. Need a big truck style pressure checker and air chuck.
